Hello, recreative Steem community, accept Steem greetings from Cameroon 🇨🇲, and thanks for this wonderful opportunity for us to showcase our favorite dinner. Today, I prepared one of our delicacies known as “ekwang” for dinner. This dish is highly cherished, and is a traditional delicacy of the Bakossi tribe of the South West region of Cameroon. Below I will show the ingredients, and various steps used to prepare the meal.
The ingredients Used to Prepare the Meal

For those who do not like spicy food, you can use just the “country onion” in French known as rondelle. Preparing ekwang requires a lot of time, and energy but the taste you get from it balanced back the energy used. It has nutritional benefits of potassium, fiber, protein, calcium, sodium, cholesterol, carbohydrates, iron, vitamins C etc. For someone who loves hot chilli 🌶 🌶, 2 or 3 will just be okay for the pot.
Steps to Cook this Mouth watering dinner
First, I had my cocoyams from the market, peel them off with a knife and washed them. Put in a colander to drain, and get dry before grating on a grater.
I prepared the cocoyam leaves, washed them, and cut into desired sizes to wrap the grated cocoyam in it. I fixed my smoked fish, grind my crayfish, and kept aside. While wrapping the ekwang, I put the fixed smoked fish.
From the above mentioned steps, it will take maximum 2 to 3 hours to complete with the wrapped ekwang. Then, I boiled water, and pre-heated the pot, and put the boiled water bit by bit until the wrapped cocoyam clot enough that water cannot make it to get loose from the cocoyam leaves. Later, I added my grind crayfish, garlic, white pepper, Maggi/salt, palm oil, and all the required ingredients.
Allow it to boiled for about an hour in order for the ingredients to mix well, and have that unique taste. Use a Woden spoon to stir gently, and closed the pot lid and, allow the pot to boil for about 30minutes. The food is ready, and served for dinner.
After eating, if you are a lover of alcohol, you can take a glass of wine but for me it’s a glass of water or smoothie😋😋. My day is completed after eating this meal.
