Introduction

Hello steemians, hope you're good. Today I'll be talking about oral health, my personal oral health and the benefits 9f maintaining a good oral hygiene.

Oral health is as important as our general health and it doesn't only includes the teeth and tongue, which is a general misconception but aslo the lips, the throat and some may argue that the face in general should be considered when talking about oral health. So what is Oral health? To me it's a mouth that looks and smell healthy, which may include well shaped lips and teeth, white teeth, a radiant smile, pink tongue, and aslo fresh breathe. Going down to the microscopic level, oral health is mouth free from the attacks of microorganisms such as bacteria that can cause complications in the mouth like plaque formation, bleeding gum etc which may eventually affect our general health if not properly handled. The smell of your breathe can make or Marr your day, and a bad breathe drives people away and this is as a result of the actions of the microbes feasting on the leftovers on your teeth.

Benefits of maintaining a good oral hygiene.

There are a lot of benefits of maintaining a good oral hygiene which includes;

  • Psychological benefits.
This is the feel good factor. Knowing that you have a good breathe and health mouth will automatically gove ypu some sort of confidence in public because, like it or not, this is one of the first things someone else notices about you and this speak volumes in itself about the kind of person you are and your general health. This confidence gives you a boost in whatever you may want to do.
  • Physical benefits.
This includes the beauty of your mouth, lips, teeth and tongue in general. Have you ever stopped by the ad of a toothpaste company and look closely at the details they try to show, they look good right. Well it's not impossible to get it. Having a good oral health adds to your beauty instantly, your smile becomes radiant and teeth sparkling white.

How to take care of your oral health

Well there's no other way to get that perfect oral health that you want than to work towards it and there are a couple of ways through which you can do that;

  • Brushing your mouth twice daily.
This should be your memo each day if you want to maintain a good oral health. Preferably, I choose to use a medium strength toothbrush and a fluoride containing toothpaste and brush twice daily, morning and night. I do this in order to get rid of the food leftovers in my mouth and also to avoid a bad breathe. I try too moderate brushing my teeth between being to hard so as not to injure myself or too soft so as to get rid of all unwanted debris in my mouth. I try to be firm and yet gentle, spending at least 10 seconds on each section of the teeth and 2-3mins in general.
  • Maintaining a healthy diet
Believe it or not, a healthy diet goes a long way in giving you your desired oral hygiene. Eat healthy and avoid food that contains much sugar as this can lead to plaque formation and bad oral health. Eating food that's rich in calcium can help boost the overall health of your teeth as well as bones. Also ensure to clean off dirt from your mouth especially after eating and do not eat foods that may be too hard for you to chew and break down with your teeth, this may result in tooth loss.
  • Chewing gum.
    I've come to realize over time that keeping the mouth active helps to reduce bad breathe and what better way to do that than to chew a piece of gum, especially those containing menthol. This is aslo a for of exercise for the month and various studies has shown that this activity helps boost the brain function. I have personally tried it and confirmed that this little exercise boosts the oral health. Although its advisable to do this with moderation.

These are the gums I chewed earlier today, my breath was fresh all day long.

* Simple rinsing of the mouth. As simple as this may look, it goes a long way. I tried it and saw the effects. After waking in the morning, i just got up and rinsed mouth with a glass of water and this helped to reduce the bad breathe that generally comes with the morning. There also better way s to do this to, thanks to the invention of mouth wash which has some added extras.

Conclusion

The importance of a good oral health can not be overemphasized as we have seen. The state of your oral health can attract people to you as well as to repel people away from you, your never cam tell, your beautiful smile can make someone's day. One more push might be whats needed to attain that perfect mouth condition.
