Animal Contest: Tell us about animal transport

Before we begin, let us define animal transportation. It is the movement of people, goods, animals, agricultural foods, food production, or any other item from one location to another. Animals such as horses, cows, and camels have historically been used in agriculture for plowing and transporting goods. They are still used for farming tasks in some rural areas.

Is animal transport available in your area?

In Sri Lanka, it is very difficult to find animal transportation especially in my area. However, in rural areas, particularly where agriculture is prevalent, bullock carts are used for a variety of tasks, including transportation of goods, and crops, and carrying load and humans. However, ancient kings had used horses, elephants, and cows for both transportation and battle.

Do you think animal transportation is legal or illegal?

Bullock carts, two -wheeled vehicles pulled by cattle, are used for transportation especially in rural areas. Such transportation is generally legal, but there should be numerous regulations and laws in place to ensure the safety and well-being of the animals. As public transportation in rural areas is rare, this type of animal transportation is legal.

Do you think the use of animals as transport should be stopped? Why?

When we consider animal welfare, using animals for transportation is not good. Because they may face harassment, particularly if regulations are not strictly enforced. For example, carrying a heavy load as well as traveling for long periods or hours, especially without adequate rest, is hazardous to their health.

However, in today's technological world, there are more efficient and humane ways for goods and people to be transported, such as lorries, cars, bicycles, trains, buses, planes, helicopters, ships, and so on, that can be used instead of animals.

Tell about transportation that can be used instead of animals.

In today's world, numerous modes of transportation can be used instead of animals. Motor vehicles such as cars and trucks, bicycles, and electric vehicles can be used. Additionally, public transportation such as buses, trains, and trams are available. Today's society heavily uses air travel and water transportation for transportation.
