Killing of animals for meat may not necessarily be an abuse. One man's food may be another man's poison, the animal we see as pet can serve as meat depending on their breed. In Nigeria we go hunting for animal just as you said to provide us with some amount of protein and serve as means of income because even if we leave them there they will eventually die and be waste or be killed by predators.
