They say that a dog is man's best friend, but cat owners certainly don't fully agree with that statement. Purring animals are just as likely to become our partners in adventures, faithful friends and pleasant company. And like canine friendship, feline friendship is pure - these animals are strongly attached to their owners and care for them, although sometimes their behavior is contradictory. We must not forget that their nature is wild and that some cats carry in their veins the blood of larger predators.

Believe it or not, we can learn something about friendship from cats, and that is to take care of the people we care about. Cats are many times available when their humans are in need - down, sad, tired. Gallic animals often have an uncanny sense of when things aren't right and will suddenly be right next to you, not letting you go until you get back into shape. Between soothing purrs, gentle pats on the head, and a cat's talent for turning into a small, furry warm reotan just when you need it most, "cat therapy" can help some of us get through the toughest of times. Pets may not know why you're down, but they're there for you regardless.

You may have noticed that cats have the ability to quickly forgive transgressions on your part. Have you been giving your cat pellets instead of her favorite wet food for breakfast? No problem, it's probably forgotten by lunchtime (or worse, the next day). Out of town for a week? After a few scolding looks, your cat will return to its normal behavior. The point is that cats remind us that even though friends do things we don't always like - it's best to forgive and forget. Life is too short, and there are treats and hugs in it!

Have you ever noticed that cats don't seem to recognize boundaries? If your cat is interested in your tuna sandwich, be sure to come right up to you while you're eating it! If you have several cats in the house, you will notice that they often feed on each other's food. When a few pellets fall on the floor - the two purring friends are immediately around to eat together. Good friends share without thinking too much.

Cats know that following their best friend (that's you!) around the house is just what friends do. Are you cooking dinner? The cats are there to watch and "offer help" if needed. Want to use the restroom? The cats will watch over you while you do (or be inside with you!). Have you ever thought you were alone in a room, only to turn around and find your cat watching you silently? We all need to take care of each other and pets no doubt remind us of that. Besides, when you're best friends, who needs personal space?

Perhaps one of the most important things we can learn from pets! Gallic animals don't care what you look like, how you dress, how you sound, or what you do in your free time. It's just how you treat them that matters. We're talking about getting down to business! Be like a cat and look beyond what meets the eye.

Although cats may have a reputation for being aloof, there are many examples of cats developing deep and loving friendships with other cats, dogs, and other animals in general. Meow friends like those they feel safe with, whether it's a person, child, dog, etc.

Let's take some of these examples and think about how they can be applied to human relationships as well. Friendship of any kind is a gift to be cherished! What has your cat taught you about friendship?
