Just like you said we have two solutions for these, either we go vegan or use the resources wisely.
I am happy to see that you are a vegetarian for a long time, but I know that going vegan will not sound like a practical idea for all societies, as some communities can't even imagine that living on a vegetarian diet is even possible.

Our environmental condition is should also be put into consideration when we are into livestock production, because the production of milk is from animal and they are very important to us.
Once the farming of livestock is affected by erosion or any other environmental disease then the world will suffer of hunger.

So by treating our animals always theu will be healthy, and also green vegetation is very good in feeding animals.
