Control Deck Anivia Tryndamere [Legends of Runeterra]

This is a decklist for Legends of Runeterra, in case you don't know what is Legends of Runeterra, I invite you to take a look at my previous post where I explain what is Legends of Runeterra and why you should play it.

This deck is a control deck, and as any control deck, it is very slow, every game takes a lot of time, but in the end, every game is very exciting and unique. Many times you are almost dead and then you are reborn from ashes and eventually win the game.

This deck is based on four things:

  • Board control
  • Healing yourself
  • Reach 10 mana ASAP
  • Finishing your opponent

I will try to explain each one so you will understand what makes it a strong deck and also how to beat this deck ( even if it is not easy to beat it).

Board Control

With this deck, your objective is to get to the late game, so at first, all you will have to do is to try not to take to much damage. To do that you will have to use some cards that kill all the enemies. Those cards are especially good against aggro decks because the opponent will try to summon many low health followers and after you kill them he will be with no cards in hand.
To achieve that you will use the following cards:

  • Avalanche

This card deals 2 damage to all units, not only the enemies units but also yours. However, this is not a big problem for you because you won't have many units on the board.
One of the things that you have to keep in mind is that is is a slow spell so you can't use it to stop an attack, but you have to use it before the enemy attacks or after it. Even if this can be annoying sometimes if you keep that in mind this card is very good, especially against aggro decks that have most units with 2 or less health.

  • Withering Wail

This card is also very useful for healing yourself as it does one damage to all units and heals your nexus for three.
One damage is not much, but the card can be very useful when one or more enemies have survived your previous damage and now think they are safe with one health. The card is also a fast spell so you can use it to respond to a direct attack of your enemy by killing his units with one health and also getting this extra 3 health that will save you many times.

  • The Ruination

This is my favorite card in the game, it destroys every monster on the board. Even if it costs 9 mana it's not a very big deal, if you need it, you can spare the 3 mana the round before and will play it at 6 mana.

One thing that you have to pay attention to is Deny. If your opponent has a deny in hand could ruin all your plans and many times this could be your death. I suggest you play against deny, by playing some spells like Vengeance or Avalanche so your opponent will use the deny on those cards.

This card is perfect for this deck because you have cards like Anivia (When she dies, transform into an egg.If you have reached 10 mana at the start of the round the egg transforms back into Anivia) or Tryndamere(When he dies, he levels up instead) that will survive the ruination.

  • Vengeance

Especially good against strong units, all she does is "Kill a Unit".

It's very useful to kill the key cards that your opponent will play, like his champion or a card that is always scaling.
As with The Ruination, with Vengeance, you have to play against "Deny" as well, and be aware that if your opponent has that card in hand, it could ruin your entire game.

Healing Yourself

With this deck, you won't have many monsters on the board in the first round, so in the beginning, you could be taking some damage. The secret to winning, is not dying, and to do that we will have to use some cards to heal ourselves, sometimes even 1 health can make the difference between a win and a loose. To heal we will use the cards with "drain" cause if you want some life, Why not taking it from the enemy units?

  • Vile Feast

The Drain mechanic basically, takes 1 life point from the unit that you select and gives it to you.
This card is especially good in the early game, because, the little spider that you will summon can help you block an attack from an enemy unit.
For this card alone it is hard to kill a unit but in combination with other cards, it can give you that 1 extra damage that you need.
One life point may not seem like much, but if you play many games, you will understand that many times this can make a big difference.

  • Grasp of The Undying

Drain 3 from a unit. This card can be very useful in almost any game but especially against aggro decks, as it can kill a Draven or a Katarina, or a Zed, very fast and solve your big problems in the early/mid-game. The 3 health is also very good, and in combination with other cards, it can kill also the big threats that your opponent will put on the board.

Those are not the only cards that will heal us, there is also the Catalyst of Aeons that cost 5 mana and will give a mana crystal and heal your nexus for 3, plus there is the Withering Wail of which we have talked before in the board control section, it does 1 damage to all units and heal your nexus for 3.

Reach 10 mana ASAP

Only when you are at 10 mana you are playing with this deck as your only way to kill the enemy is to summon monsters that either cost 10 mana or you need 10 mana so they could be at their maximum potential.
To reach 10 mana faster, we will use the following cards:

  • Wyrding Stones

As long as this card is on the board, at the end of each round you get an extra mana crystal for that round. This card is also an option if you need to block an attack, even if I would only block big attacks because you are ok even if you take some damage at the beginning. If you have to copies of this card on the board it will start to make a big difference because 2 extra mana is a big deal. Unfortunately in the late game, this card is useless because it does nothing after you have reached 10 mana.

  • Catalyst of Aeons

Even if 5 mana cost is a bit too much for an extra mana crystal, the addition of healing for three makes it a decent card. I can't see a use for this card in a different deck, but in this deck, you need to get to 10 mana fast and you also need healing so this card has finally found its place.

Finish Your Opponent

After we have reached 10 mana and we have struggled to survive everything that our enemy is throwing at us, the moment has finally come. Now is our turn to attack, and we will be attacking with a big force.

  • Anivia

This card could also fit in the board control section, but I decided to put it here mostly because of its cost.
The card costs 7 mana, but at 10 mana it levels up and becomes very useful.
After she levels up, every time she attacks she will do 2 damage to all enemy units, nexus included.
If she dies she will come back as 0-2 egg. If you have 10 mana at the start of the round, the egg will transform back into Anivia (this can happen an infinite number of times).

  • Tryndamere

This is what I call a finisher. He costs 8 mana and has an attack of 8 and 4 health, plus it has overwhelm. Overwhelm means that any damage that it does over the enemy's health will go to the nexus. So basically, if you attack an enemy that has 2 health, you will do 2 damage to him and 6 damage to the enemy's nexus.
If this didn't convince you that he deserves to be called a finisher, you should know that when he dies he transforms in a 9-9 with overwhelm.

  • She who Wanders

My favorite card from this deck.
A 10-10 that when it's played, obliterates all followers with 4 or less power from the board and the hand. This is just amazing, especially against aggro decks. You not only destroy all of your enemy's board, but you also destroy the minions in his hand.
Furthermore, to obliterate is not the same as to kill, when a unit is obliterated it will just disappear from the game so even if the unit has a "last breath" (does something when it dies), it will not apply.
A 10-10 is very hard to kill and after you play it, your opponent will just surrender.

There are also other cards in the decklist and those are also important but, I can't be explaining any card, you should just try the deck and see how it works out for you.
