The 3 Worst Retro Video Games That I Have Ever Played!

There are also many very bad games released in the past that it would be hard to choose with just only top three of the worst that I had the misfortune of playing. But thinking hard, there are no really bad video games at all. Just miserable and underpaid, bad videogame developers who made a poor product. And I am presenting the worst of them in no particular order:

1. Karateka (NES/Famicom)

I hate this game. Even if the game critics and historians call it kind of revolutionary at that time. Cheap, easy-to-get deaths and very slow moves will make you rage quit. So much that you want to throw the controller at the television screen in this early hybrid of a martial arts and adventure game.

2. Defender (Atari 2600)

Before having the NES, I got an Atari 2600 video games console during the early 1980s as stated in a previous post. I got to try this arcade shooter. Defender was a port of the classic arcade hit of the same name.

This port had less colors and detail than the arcade version and got an obviously slowed-down gameplay. There is nothing nice to do here but just go left and right shooting down alien enemies and racking up high scores. You will really get bored mighty fast!

3. Batman Forever (Sega Genesis)

Having Mortal Kombat style graphics with a dark tone, Batman Forever is the worst super hero video game that I have ever played in my entire gaming life! The music is kind of disturbing that can lull you into sleep. The action is just mindless punching and kicking disguising itself as action-adventure fare. And the controls are so bad that you thought you were playing a generic NES game. It does not suit that great Sega Genesis controller!

Whoever made this game should certainly have their video game developer's license taken away! Oh, great Batman, if you really exist in this world...Please send these kind of video game developers to Justice!

I think that is it. So, what were the worst retro games you have ever played in your entire gaming life? Let me read that in the comments below.

Batman Forever, rented it from Blockbuster Video. Never rented it again after that. 😆

It was really a stinker!

Well I think Defender was ok considering the capabilities of the 2600. However, all home ports were disappointing back in those times. I don't know what you call the graphical style that arcade cabinets were using back in the 80's but the Defender arcade game was friggin awesome.

Thanks for the input. The 2600 was great for the early 1980s.
