Werewolf: The Last Warrior is an action platform game developed and published by Data East of Japan for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). It was released in 1990.

This was one of my nostalgic favorites on the NES and is a certified hidden gem.

The Story

You are a "Warwolf" (a kind of super werewolf) and Second Earth's hope to save that world from the evil scientist, Dr. Fabian, and his lab monsters. Basically, stop the bad guys from taking over with your monster abilities.

The Graphics and Sound

The graphics are kind of great for a NES game. The backgrounds get to be kind of a bit repetitive. The color shades set the mood for the game. I believe the developers could have done more but I think they were having time constraints and pressured to release the game on schedule.

If you like video games with some memorable themes then you will like the music. The sound effects are done well.

The Gameplay

The control in the game is very good. You can do quick movements for your main character, and making the jumping on the pits easy. You do not need to press more than two buttons at a time to do some moves. Quite satisfying.

Your hero can do more moves such as high jumps, High, low and mid-level attacks, climbing, crawling, crouch walking, and firing a weapon when acquired.

The game is difficult if you don't consider the attack patterns of the bosses and timing your counter-attacks.

My Verdict

This is a great action platform game for the NES. If you like retro games with good action and with decent difficulty, then you should get this game.

Emulators are the thing to go if you wanna play but are kind of financially stuck at the moment.
