The Night of the Rabbit is a very fairytale like game with interesting puzzles, which is convincing with its beautiful visuals. Anyone who hasn't lost his inner child and can imagine to spend some quiet hours as a twelve year old in a magical world, will definitely enjoy this game.

Like any of us who were once 12 years old, Jeremiah Hazelnut dreamed of magic and adventure. But instead of being part of an adventure himself, he only read about them in his books. This was to change abruptly when he met the Marquise de Hoto shortly before the end of summer break. He offers him training as a tree-runner; a magician who can reach other places and times with the help of portal trees.

The story begins very calmly and fairy-tale like, which is also very well underlined by the cartoon-like appearance of the game. Environments and characters are designed very lovingly and detailed. The different, hand-drawn scenes, which we travel through in the game, invite you to dream. It's a pleasure to look at all the details, like small plants, dreamily chiseled stones or different buildings. That's what makes every scene so unique and inviting.

In the later course of the game there will also be the possibility to switch between day and night time. This aspect is also wonderfully reflected in the visuals, changes already known scenes and lets them literally shine in a different light.

The game principle itself is like you would expect from a point and click adventure. Accordingly it is necessary to interact with the environment, collect different objects, combine them with each other and solve puzzles in this way.

And even though the story starts very fairy-tale like, it becomes more serious and darker with time.

A positive aspect is that the game gives you enough space to think about the further course without being too predictable. Consequently, I had several times thought in completely different directions than the one the game had led me to at its end - leading me to rate this game 7.5/10.

Pros

  • Environments and characters were designed very lovingly and in detail.
  • The soundtrack is very atmospheric
  • Plenty of additional content to discover
  • The puzzles are creatively designed and not too easy.

Cons

  • The story's potential has not been fully exploited.
  • There are still some questions left open.
  • There are many hints for a sequel, but it's uncertain if there will be one some day.
