[Game] Black Desert Mobile
Black Desert Mobile is a MMORPG optimized for phones and tablets published by Pearl Abyss in early 2020 for both Android and iOS. It is more or less a spiritual successor of the PC version "Black Desert Online".
The first impression of the game is: simply beautiful. It has probably the most detailed character creation of any mobile MMORPG by far, coming extremely close to the much-praised character creation of its PC version. The graphic in general is beautiful and the soundtrack fits the environment.
It currently features 8 basic classes and their respective awakened versions in later stages of the game. Those are equivalent to the PC version and thus you can assume they will add the other classes of that one in the future. It also features the detailed crafting and profession system of the PC version, which may be a bit confusing for new players that did not play Black Desert Online, but if you are into stuff like this with a slight roleplay character, the game got your back.
The combat in Black Desert Mobile is also very similar to the PC version, but of course simplified for a mobile game. It still features awesome chain and combo skills that you would have to learn because the game does not really try to teach them to you. However, it is fully action combat style, which may sound like a good thing first, which also is, at least in most cases. But they second you are surrounded by a larger number of enemies, you run into massive problems as the game does not really let you fix your target on a single enemy very well. It starts feeling clunky and just awkward. It can cause your character’s death in many cases.
Another major drawback is the heavy Pay2Win style of the game. It starts with extreme buffs on the quite expensive cash shop outfits and ends with auto loot pets – the more the merrier. In later stages of the game you are basically forced to buy those if you want to have any chance of keeping up with other players.
From a more technical point of view, you should definitely own a rather new phone or tablet to play it, as it requires quite good hardware in order to run smoothly. Also, I can not recommend playing it with mobile Internet connection or far away from the next electrical outlet.
In conclusion one can say that Black Desert Mobile is probably one of the better mobile MMORPGs out there, but if you don’t plan on investing a lot of money into a free to play game but still want to be competitive, you should probably look for an alternative. With that being said, I rate this game 5/10. However, if you just want a chill game, probably with some roleplay character, or you just don’t mind spending a lot of money in an in-game cash shop, this is a game you should look into.
