The invention of technology has impacted almost all the aspect of our everyday lives, internet has made it easier for everyone from communication to transportation, to our healthcare system to our social life, it has made it possible to connect to someone virtually without even meeting face to face. However just like every creation, there is the bad part. The overuse of technology has the power to damage a lot, a increase of mental health, reduced privacy and an increase in social pressure. Technology has played a dominant role in developing almost all the economy.

➡️Better and Advanced Communication: technology is the mother of all invention. The popularity of technology started with the invention of telephones with the intention of the inventor, to improve communication between him and his mother. So the journey to having the sophisticated communication tools began. Presently, we have thousands of communication gadgets that come in different sizes with diverse features and benefits. It proved the statement that the world is a global village. Now, a person can connect to anyone all over the country via messages, emails, photos, video and audio call breaking through the barrier of distance.

➡️Technology has improved brands, businesses and personal life. Companies can provide effective and quick customer care services by being actively involved in our customer lives and interacting with them in real time. Now, conference meetings can be held online, webinars to support seminars, online schools and courses supporting physical schools, zoom used to connect to thousands of people online.

➡️Technology has made us realize that we don’t really need to have a physical shop space before we can start and run a business, now one can easily set up an office online.

➡️Technology has made it easier for customers to buy product and services online. Technology has helped lots of people achieve their dreams of an easy life.

➡️Technology has provided employments for some persons. Digital skills are now the rush, with skills like Virtual Assistance, Copywriting, Content writing, web developer and designer, Data Analytics, social media management, digital marketer, email marketer, content creation.

➡️Technology has mad digital currency a success, now payments are easily made all over the world, cryptocurrencies are accepted in some countries as a means of payment.
Improved Housing and Lifestyle: Thanks to modern day technology, advanced and customized home gadgets have made our lives fun, organized.

➡️Everything you can ever imagine can be ordered and delivered right at your door step. Technology has made it easier to control things with our phones without even steeping out of our house.

➡️Technology has improved our transportation system, making it easier for people to travel to anywhere in the world comfortably. Now, we cannot imagine not having access to the fast cars, airplanes, trains and jets. It has also given us the means to a better security, access to GPS tracker and CCTVs to keep our vehicles safe.

➡️Technology has made distance learning a success, it has changed education and made studying easy for students. Now, students have access to material online to enhance their learning. There are books one can source for online, educative videos one can watch on YouTube, virtual institutes that gives access to students to earn degree from the comfort of their home, students can easily source for the help of their lecturers. Using technology has made learning fun for children in schools.

➡️Access to better healthcare. Access to highly developed health facilities is a thing of joy., it has made the diagnosis process and treatment easier, with technology, medicine that can be used to treat cancer, hepatitis, kidney problems, heart problems, surgeries has been made possible with technology.

What is the advantages and disadvantages of technology in a kid’s life?

There’s no denying the fact that technology has improved the mode of living but every invention on earth has pros and cons. Statistics has shown that
▪️children under the age of 9 use technology for at least an average of 4 hours every day.
▪️90% of kids have access to technology.
▪️10% spend the majority of their time in front of a mobile device.

PROS OF CHILDREN USING TECHNOLOGY

▪️Technology has made learning fun for kids, it provides a means to keep a child’s attention. Children are easily distracted, in school, at home, at work. Devising means to keep them engaged for a long period is where technology becomes a good invention.

▪️Due to today’s educational videos, audios, and apps, children can now easily and quickly learn. Apps like word puzzles tackle their brains, duolingo, hsk,and hanping makes it easier for them to learn foreign languages, alphabets games has helped them improve in there spellings. Abcd videos help them learn how to read and write things.

▪️With technology, kids have accesss to information. Last week, my nephews answered correctly 3 questions that was asked on the who wants to be a millionaire show, when asked how he was able to answer correctly, he answered “Anuty, the cartoon we watch taught about this”, imagine how surprised I was, if he had not watched cartoon, he would not be able to answer the questions. Children learn about the difference countries, people, and culture. With technology, they broaden their horizons of what they don’t know.

▪️Technology helps children learn other skills. With technology, today’s child can easily learn how to use the laptop, learn how to type, draw, code, a child can easily learn how to play instruments, dance, sings, and build websites online.

▪️With technology, kids can easily start building their brands from young age, if they can make clothes, sing, dance, draw, they can start showcasing their hobbies online, which can eventually turn to a job for them in the future, and people will not find it hard to patronize them.

CONS OF CHILDREN USING TECHNOLOGY

▪️It exposes the child to harmful content every day. Some kids are not restricted from some sites, and have access to all kinds pornographic of content that could damages their brains.

▪️Technology reduces the ability of a child to fully develop their brains by tackling challenging tasks when they can easily get it online without stressing themselves.

▪️The children are at risk of being addicted to technology, they can’t do anything if technology is involved.

What is the rate of the impact of technology in your kid’s life?

• They become too dependent on technological appliances.

• Spending almost all their time on mobile phones and appliances takes a toll on their ability to make friends.

• Technology had taken the place of family time, some parents hardly spend time with their children causing these kids to lack emotional love.

Can you control the exposure of kids to certain technological products? How?

When children start showing signs of being too dependent on technology, then it is time to control when they use it and check what they are exposed to.

✔️To be able to control your children’s exposure to technology, then as a parent, you need to have knowledge of how the technology works. Understand how the internet works, upgrade your knowledge, discover how certain tools works, so as not to be tricked by your kids who are more technologically advanced.

✔️Place the phones in public places, not private and quiet places where you cannot see and control what they are doing.

✔️Have access to parental control. I am sure you must have heard parental guidance is advice not for viewers younger than the age of 18, It is a way parents can easily control the screen time of their kids. You can set it to videos of 1-16, that means movies that has 18+ will not be shown on the screen. Have access to YouTube where you can set what they watch and don’t. Use cable and movies platform that you can set up a parental control. When you set us parental guidance, no matter how hard the kids try, they will not be able to get access to some websites and videos except they are able to outsmart you.

✔️Have specific time the child has access to the internet, tv or phone.

✔️Having access to internet, phones, and laptop should be at certain age as the child grows.
