Welcome to my blog on today's writting Expedition, under the topic "HEALTH" I will be writting about Obesity and Overweight, it's meaning, health consequences and preventive measures.

What are overweight and obesity?

Overweight and obesity is the abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that could be Harmful to one's health. The Body Mass Index (BMI), a straightforward measure of weight in relation to height, is frequently used to categorize adult overweight and obesity.

Why are people overweight and obese?

• A rise in the consumption of foods with lots of sugar and fat that are high in energy; and

• A rise in physical inactivity brought on by the sedentary character of a growing number of occupations, shifting modes of transportation, and escalating urbanization.

What common health effects of obesity and overweight are there?

• Heart disease and stroke, which were the top causes of death in 2012, are two noncommunicable diseases for which having a high BMI is a key risk factor;

• Diabetes, musculoskeletal illnesses (particularly osteoarthritis, a very disabling joint degenerative disease), and others

• A few malignancies, including endometrial, breast, ovarian, prostate, liver, gallbladder, kidney, and colon cancers.

• Obese children experience breathing issues, an increased risk of fractures, hypertension, early indicators of cardiovascular disease, insulin resistance, and psychological effects in addition to their increased future risks.

• Carrying a "double burden" of malnutrition: Malnutrition is currently a problem in many low- and middle-income countries.

• Children in low- and middle-income nations are more susceptible to poor nutrition during pregnancy, as a newborn, and as a young child. These kids are also exposed to diets that are high in fat, sugar, salt, and energy, but low in micronutrients. These foods are typically less expensive, but their nutritional value is also reduced.

How may obesity and excess weight be decreased?

Individuals have the following options:

• Reduce the amount of total fats and carbohydrates you consume;

• Up your intake of fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, and nuts; and

• Take part in regular physical activity (150 minutes per week for adults and 60 minutes per day for youngsters).

The food business can significantly contribute to the promotion of a healthy diet by:

• decreasing the amount of salt, sugar, and fat in processed foods;

• Ensuring that all customers have access to cheap and healthful food options;

• Limiting the promotion of foods heavy in sugar, salt, and fat, particularly those marketed toward adolescents and teenagers; and

• Ensuring access to nutritious food options and encouraging frequent physical activity in the workplace.

Hope we have all learnt something today, I will love to invite @usoro01, @koksy09 and @uduak3287 to join this contest.
