Every family has those moments they cherish so much, moments they look back to with a smile and just like every family differs from the other, their favorite moments also differ. For my family, one of our favorite moments was spending a night outside telling stories under the stars.

This night didn't just begin with the decision to spend it outside under the stars, it was actually suppose to be a movie night. It was one of the few nights when we were done with our exams and were allowed to stay long into the night and past bed time, seeing a movie.

This was one of our happiest moments. This day we prepared series of movies we intended on seeing, had dinner in time, got together and got ready to start and just like that, the power supply was interrupted.
We thought it was the usual few seconds off but this took a long while and then we realized it was coming on again, at least not that night.

This was sad considering we weren't always allowed to stay long into the night. My mum noticed the mood and opted we lie out for a while for fresh air. This was a new and refreshing idea so we all jumped at it and since our home was fenced, it made it more relaxing.
In no time, we had two big mats, blankets and pillows outside. After finding comfortable positions to lie, my mum started with the stories. She told us a story which she said her mum, my grandma told her.

The story centered round a second wife who attempted poisoning the pot of food of the first wife in her room without knowing that her child who was lying in the room wasn't sleeping.
She was caught and following the rules of that time, she was thrown into a hot boiling oil. This story taught us a lesson and also came with a song in our dialect which I still remember very well till date.

From this story, we began sharing stories of our lives. While some were interesting, some were very embarrassing to the point of laughing out loud. All these stories were woven with warmth and love. From these stories, our focus moved to the stars which were shining brightly above.

This view was extremely beautiful, so much that we spent the remaining hours sharing stars related stories while gazing at them.
This moment we shared under the stars that night telling stories deepened our family bond. It reminded us of the joy of togetherness, the comfort of loved ones, and the beauty of nature.

Even to this day, talking about sleeping outside brings nostalgic memories and smiles to all. It's another reminder that the most precious moments are most times the most ordinary ones, the ones where we connect with the people who matter most and appreciate the simple wonders around us.
This is one of our favorite moments as family.
