I wish I could send hugs🤣
I heard that Christmas has been postponed in Bethlehem...🤣🤣🤣 But here in Nigeria, the celebration is even more intensive than other years past.

INTRODUCTION

This week as we all know opens into a celebration that's known worldwide but mostly observed by Christians. By that, you should know it's Christmas I mean. Yes!

Every 25th day in the month of December has been set aside by the Christians to mark the birth of their messiah in the person of Jesus.

According to the Bible, Jesus is the son of God who was sent to earth to redeem God's people from sin. He came into this world like every other human. But through a virgin called Mary. And his earthly father's name was Joseph.

WHAT DOES CHRISTMAS MEAN FOR YOU

To me, Christmas is the most beautiful time of the year, the most anticipated for most Christians like me. Although the celebration is mainly done by the Christians, other people in different religions also adopt it nowadays. Apart from the celebration and all the food and gift, one thing that I've observed during the Christmas period is that prices of food items skyrocket.

Some prices may even double. But, you'll still see people buy those items, not minding the price. People spend alot during Christmas. And it's funny how a person would safe a lot of money just to spend it during Christmas. And when the new year comes , they claim that life is hard on them. When they might have spent almost all they had in the previous year and attributing it to Christmas.

I was born into a family where Christmas is being observed and unfailingly celebrated every year. Family members get to see each other, host meetings, go out, party, etc. But we actually don't forget the main essences of it ; the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. Every December 25 , we as a family do go to church. Where we get to sing Carols ( Gospel hymns that are specially written for Christmas) listen to sermons from different preachers, pray, exchange gifts and so on. When we get back home, we prepare meals, eat and share it with our neighbors as well.

TRACE THE ORIGIN OF CHRISTMAS, STATING AT LEAST THREE FACTS THAT SUPPORTS OR COUNTER THE CELEBRATION

A Brief History
Christmas is the commemoration of Christ's birth and the name Christmas (Christ's Mass) was first recorded in England in 1038
According to the early Roman history, the first time the birth of Jesus Christ was attributed to December 25 was in the 4th century. The early days traditions of Christmas were thought to originate from Rome and other European festivals that marked the end of the harvest and the winter solstice.
Although most practices during Christmas is believed to have connections with paganism, most Christians do not pay attention to these facts. The few that are aware of the fact, only focus on just honouring the birth of Christ and showing gratitude by celebrating it.
I will not counter neither would I support the celebration.
But a friend of mine ones convinced me to quit the celebration based on these facts

1)Christmas is a Pagan festival
People have supposed Christmas to be a Christian holiday. We do not seek to know if its observance is commanded or accepted by God . Why out of all the 365 days in a year should 25th of December be chosen to honour the birth of Jesus. It was the same day and season on which the pagans for centuries had celebrated the birth of the Sun-god. The day of the old Roman feast of the birth of Sol; one of the names of the sun-god. In pagan days, this birth of the sun-god was the most popular and most celebrated for them. Most of the things that are being practiced during Christmas is being borrowed from these worship of the sun-god. And Christians who practice them, are assumed to be worshipping the sun-god in ignorance.

2)Not instructed by God or even Jesus himself
God has not stated in any portion of the Bible that the birth of Jesus should be celebrated. Neither did Jesus order the church to celebrate his birth.Even in the days that his disciples lived, they never gave the church an instruction to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
So, as followers of Christ which the Christians claim to be, they should not partake in any activities that do not originate from Christ.

3) Superstitious believes and unholy practices during the period

Most people make santa claus the most important figure during the celebration of Christmas.

Source
They believe in the myrth of Santa moving from house to house at night to distribute gift. It has become so popular that people actually forget what the main purpose of Christmas is. They forget about Jesus. Do whatever they feel like doing. For example, you see people drink and get drunk all in the name of celebrating Christmas. This is not what Christmas should represent, if it must be celebrated.

WAS JESUS BORN ON 25TH DECEMBER?

The birth of Jesus was not attributed to any date in the calendar. And up until now, there's still no specific date that is recorded as the day Jesus Christ was born.
According to the Bible, the date of the first coming of Jesus is not supposed to be known and remembered, as well the date of his second coming. 25th December was just chosen to celebrate his birth.
So, Jesus was not born on the 25th day of December.

WHY DO YOU CHOOSE TO OR CHOOSE NOT TO CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS?

As an independent person that I am, still young and staying with my parents. The decision of whether to or not to celebrate Christmas is not mine to take. For now, what my parents do is what I'll do. Until I become independent, maybe I'll reconsider those facts that I've listed above. And then, take my stand.
For now, I'll choose to celebrate Christmas.

I can see that you have a strong appreciation for the festive season and its religious significance. You also raise an interesting point about the economic impact of Christmas spending habits. Christmas is a time when people tend to spend more than usual, especially on gifts, food, and alcohol. You have written well
