3Bs - Beautiful, Brilliant and Bold

Social workers around the world get to meet new people with different personalities on a daily. By interacting with these people who usually share diverse views, opinions and beliefs, they get to unlearn, learn and relearn. Most importantly, they get to save memories of the most beautiful things life has to offer by clicking beautiful pictures and one of such gifts is the young ones amongst us.

Children are the most adorable gifts nature has given to humanity. Although they can be a handful sometimes, what makes their personality intriguing and worthy of emulation is that children will continue to remain innocent, open-minded, curious to learn and sometimes loquacious like the one I will be introducing to you today.

During the 5-week volunteering project I participated in tagged Teacher's Aide Programme (TAP), I got to meet this unique personality, a nine-year-old girl in primary four who is an explicit image of what I would describe as the 3Bs — Beautiful, Brilliant and Bold. Got intrigued by her personality that I ended up capturing over 174 images of her on my phone by the end of the project. No kidding.

Promise is well-mannered yet appallingly outspoken, playful to the last bearable degree, precocious yet understanding the world with the eyes of a child. She is a great kid who is brilliant, creative, and at the same time full of confidence. These exceptional qualities were what drew my attention to her the first day I saw her dancing at her school's end-of-the-year party (a photo of her dancing has been attached in the cover photo). By then, I didn't know her so well and so presumed that she was just one of those few females who knew how to thrill the crowd with fascinating dance steps.

On returning to her school for the TAP project, I got to know that she is not only an energetic dancer but book-smart as well. In a conversation with her teacher, I got to know that she tops the class in examinations and tests. Curious, I took it upon myself to study her circle of friends and yes, her clique of friends are so intelligent as well (those two girls on the cover photo are so smart and brillant).

As part of the project, each kid was given a chance to lead their team. During her tenure, Promise exhibited an excellent leadership spirit. She is a born leader who understands that leadership is never about giving orders to the followers but giving everyone a fair chance to chip in their ideas and then agree on a suitable solution.

I admire her resilient and assertive spirit. The sound of her laugh is so soft. Almost sounds like that of an angel —that's if angels laugh at all.

There are so many more things I will like to share with you about this young girl who has exceptional potential. She is not only a beauty with brains but rather, a beauty with brains and purpose. I pray that she reaches the highest height and remains an inspiration to other females out there.
