Introduction

I welcome all of you to my blog and I believe most of you have been reading some the educational contents I have been dropping in my blog. Today, I will be discussing about the Muscular system, the different muscles in the body as well as the functions of the muscular system.

The muscular system is an organ system consisting of smooth skeletal and cardiac muscle. The muscles permits movement of the body, it also maintains posture as well as circulating blood throughout the body. The muscular system in vertebrate is controlled through the nervous system. Although some muscles, example cardiac muscles can be completely autonomous. That is, it does not depends on you to do what it does. The muscles in your eye will blink without you telling it to do so and the muscles found in your heart works without you commanding it to do so. Those are few examples of autonomous muscles .

Muscles are made of some materials, a type of elastic tissue, soft like the materials of a rubber band.
Tens of thousands of small fibres make up of each muscles.

Different muscles of the body

They are basically three types of muscles in the body.

  1. Skeletal muscles
  2. Cardiac Muscles
  3. Smooth Muscles

Skeletal muscles: These are voluntary muscles which are within means we can control what they do. They work with the bone to give the body power and strength.
It is the muscles that shows how you are and with which you hit or foot some things example football. These muscles are held to bones with the aid of tendons.

Cardiac muscles: It is the muscles that make up the heart. They are called hearty muscles and myocardium. The thick muscles of the heart contracts to pump blood out and then relax to let blood back in the body. The cardiac muscles works by itself without help from the human. A special group of muscles found in the heart are known as the pacemaker of the heart since these muscles controls the heartbeat.

Smooth Muscles: They are at work all over our bodies. In the stomach and in digestive system, they contract and relax to allowed food to make it journey through the body. The muscle pushes the food out of the stomach and it come up through the oesophagus and out of the mouth.

Functions of the Muscles

Muscles play Major roles in the body functions.
  1. Producing movement: It produces movement by the action of muscles crossing joints between the bones of the skeleton. The muscles are connected to the joint and bones via tendons, example when you extend your elbow the tendons in your elbow pull on the muscles to allow the movement to take place.

  2. Maintaining Posture: Stabilization of the body is dependent on the muscles. If you train
your trapezium muscles then you will have better support because the muscles will be stronger ymm
thereby resulting in a stronger neck.

  3. Stabilizing joints: it limits movement or provide balance to more stable joint. For example a lot of people complain about a lower back pain and a common cause of this pain is under use of stabilizer muscles in the multifidus muscle group.

  4. Generating heat: The muscles produce heat within the body when they contract. This heat causes the blood flow to the skin. The heat is efficient mechanical energy. When we sweat we release excess energy as heat and the body release sweat to cool the skin.

  5. Assistance in the blood circulation:
When muscles contract, they produce chemicals that regulates flow of blood for the required exercise being done. Example a weightlifter will have to take in a lot of oxygen to provide strength to the muscles to lift such a large amount of static weight. At this point, the blood vessels found in the muscles will allows this to happen by dilating and becoming bigger due to heat when it is required.

Conclusion

Thank you for reading to the end and I promise to be dropping more interesting topics for you dear readers.
