Question I: what is family

Family is a group of people bounded by either blood, birth or adoption. Family is the most basic of all socialization. They world started with just a family and today the globe is filled
with many families.

Question II: Name the types of marriage practice in your country

Marriages in Nigeria can be classified as Monogamous or Polygamous.
Monogamous Marriage: This is a marriage that involves one man and his wife. It is supported by the Christian faith.
Polygamous Marriage: This is a marriage that involves one man and his wives. It involves a man taking more than one wife provided that he has the capability to control them.

Question III: Explain five benefits of living together in the family.

A family sticks together and numerous benefits are gained when a family stays together , some of them are:

• Love: love and warmth Is felt amongst family members,

• Co-operation: Especially in a good polygamous setting, cooperation is felt. Members of the family all speak on one voice and agree to do a certain task together, this makes the task easier and less heavier. An example is found in the Northern part of my country Nigeria. Where families own large hectares of land, and because of familial cooperation farming on such is made easy.

• Sense of belonging:A person who comes from a good family will know that he has someone to back him up in times of lack and trouble. This brings about a sense of belonging. Also, a sense of belonging is felt as only at home i.e amongst the family can one feel he truly belongs there.

• Positive values:The first agent of socialization is the family, values are first learnt from the family, when a child is born his first contact is with his family and slowly he picks up their traits and grows to become like them.

• Trust and Friendship: 'Feel at home' was a phrase initiated to make someone feel he is among his family members and should feel free. However, sometimes we face problems and situations that places the family members as the best bet. Trust is built on family members and friendship is best felt among members of the family.

Question IV: Is a house help a member of a family? Explain

A house help to me is part of the family, family does not only involve people you share blood ties with, people adopted is one of the those we can call family. If you are familiar with the Chinese customs you probably must have heard of the term sworn brother or sister. These people are considered as family. Househelps are part of the family through adoption. So we should welcome and love them as family too.
