Is it Normal for Kids to Have Fears?

It`s normal for children to feel fear at times. Fear is a natural emotion that can make kids be cautious. For a kid the things that are different, new, , loud, or big can seem scary at first. By the help of parents kids can feel safe and learn to feel at ease. What are children afraid of? What children fear changes as they grow up. Some fears in kids are common and they become normal at certain ages.
for example:

  • Infant babies are afraid of strangers. By the time the baby is about 8-9 months old, she will be able to recognize the faces of people she knows. So they can scare new faces-even new babysitters and relatives. They may cry or cling to their parents to feel safe.

  • Toddlers have separation anxiety. Between 10 months and 2 years, many toddlers begin to fear separation from their parents. They do not want parents to leave them for day care or bedtime. They may cry, cling, and try to stay close to their parents.

  • Kids are afraid of "fake". Children between the ages of 4 and 6 can imagine and pretend, but they cannot always determine what is real and what is not. To them, the creepy monsters they imagine look real. They are afraid of what's under their bed or in the closet. Many are afraid of darkness and going to bed. Some people are afraid of eerie dreams. Toddlers can also be afraid of loud noises such as lightning and fireworks.

  • Older children are afraid of real danger. If your child is over 7 years old, the monster under the bed knows it's not real, so it won't scare your child. At this age, some children begin to fear what may happen in real life. You may be worried that there may be "bad guys" in your house. They may be afraid of the natural disasters they hear. You may be afraid of getting hurt or the death of your loved one. School-aged children may also be afraid of matching with school, grade, or friends.

  • Preteens and teens can have social unrest. You may be worried about what they look like or whether they match. They may feel anxious or anxious about giving presentations in class, starting a new school, taking big exams, or playing big games.

How can I help if my child is scared?

If your child is afraid, you can help by doing the following:

  • Comfort your baby, toddler, or very young child by saying, "It's okay, you're safe, I'm here."

  • Inform your child that you are there to protect them. Give a hug and a word of security so that your child feels safe.

  • Talk and listen as your child grows up. Please be calm and rest assured. Help your child put feelings into words.

  • Help kids try new things. Help your baby to get awear of a new person while you hold him and try to let him feel safe. In fact the new person won't seem like a stranger anymore to your kid .

  • Try to keep your toddler be apart from you for short times at first. If you have to say goodbye to your child, say you go back, hug, smile, and leave. Let your child learn that you will be back.

  • Have a calm bedtime routine for your little kid who is afraid of darkness. Please read and sing to your child.

  • Make your child feel safe and loved.

  • Help your child slowly face their fears. For example, look for monsters under the bed together. If you are there to support them, let them see for themselves that there is nothing to worry about. Help her feel courage.

  • Limit the scary photos, movies, or shows your child sees. These can cause anxiety.

  • Help kids and adolescents prepare for tasks such as tests and lesson reports. Let them realize that you believe in them.

Is my child's anxiety normal or do I need more help?

Most children deal with normal fear with gentle support from their parents. As they grow up, they overcome the fears they had when they were young.

Some children make it more difficult and need more help with anxiety. If the fear is extreme or prevents the child from doing normal things, it can be a sign of anxiety disorder.

Talk to your doctor if your child is afraid and you feel these

  • fear Looks extreme or stay over normal time periods
  • Make very upset your child or throw a tantrum
  • Prevent your child from going to school, sleeping alone, leaving you, etc.
  • Causes physical symptoms (abdominal pain, headache, palpitation, etc.),
  • makes the child short of breath, dizzy, or feels sick.
Sort:

Comfort your baby, toddler, or very young child by saying, "It's okay, you're safe, I'm here."

Thanks for your good words and reviewing my post 💕

What you said about children fear is so true. Most children will not want to go close to a stranger but can play with the stranger from the parents arm. I have watched my daughter display this severally. A times a smile over it and another time am displease.

This is a deep study about kids attitude and I do appreciate you for it.

Thank you for a very interesting article!
I had the same problem with my stepson when he was smaller. He even gave terrible screams in his sleep.
On medical advice we were told not to panic as he will outgrow it. Luckily he did.
Thank you for sharing!
