The Diary Game || 25-03-24 || Orientating Women on Immunisation and Child Birth

It was a busy day as a health worker. I did a lot of awareness creation in the hospital to nursing mothers especially and potential ones. There's a common agenda among many especially those in the village which I tried addressing. It was a successful orientation that day and gifts were given out to who? I'll explain in this diary entry.

Waking up as early as 5Am as a mother isn't easy. You'll have to cook so that your children will go to school in time. I also had to go to work that day. It was a Monday morning, the start of a new week.

I took to examining the scriptures prayerfully with my family and then headed off to work after ensuring my children had left for school. On my way to work which happens to be in another local Government Area, Oron. Transporting myself down to that place using a taxi requires patience.....You'll be packed like sardine in the taxi as if you're being taken for slave trade.

Finally, I got to the hospital at Oron. Normally, it's a developed hospital though in a developing area in that Local Government Area. This picture shows my arrival in the hospital with my official wear. In the hospital particularly my ward, there's a general orientation for pregnant women and mothers who do exclusive breast feeding.

I was in charge of this Orientation. When it was about 9Am, the women already there and other pregnant women came and sat in the hall allocated for this orientation. The orientation was majorly on immunization and its importance and there were personnel to take care of this immunization of children. To those who have given birth, they were to give their children these immunization to protect them from certain diseases that may affect them later in life.

This orientation was to help these women become informed and also make informed decisions when it comes to their health. First of all, vaccines like this are used to prevent the spread of some diseases like measles and polio. This helps boost the immune system of their babies as well as save lifes. That day, we did this immunization free of charge as it's always done every Mondays.

After the orientation on immunization and its importance, women were gifted for exclusive breast feeding which provides perfect nutrition for infants and also help reduce risks of allergies and infections as the case may be. These are pictures showing the gift we the nurses in that ward gifted these women.

It's a common agenda among women to be delivered of by a traditional birth attendant as they feel there are too much bills to pay when it comes to being delivered of in the hospital. This mentality is actually porous and out of ignorance and many have seen the sad consequences of their decisions.

Some think the hospital won't be able to but a traditional birth attendant who is actually a prophetess will deliver the baby successfully with God's help. These ones end up being deceived by these attendants and the environment at times is so unhygienic. These women end up spending more than they would have spent in the hospital. I can recall series of cases of women brought from traditional birth attendant places due to complications on birth. A woman even lost her life there after all the advice I have her.

I was just so worn out that day not until I retired. At least I shared knowledge that would be useful to the masses. If you're a woman and you know someone who's pregnant, please relate this information to them as well. Doing things the right way no matter the cost is worth it.
