SEC17 WK:#5: caring for aged and dependent relatives in the family
Caring for the aged in the family is kind of a blessing because when you care for them when they think that there would be nobody to Carter for them they tend to bless you with all of their heart, that's why I said caring for the aged is a blessing.
When caring for the aged or a dependent relative it is good that we understand their needs, because most times they won't be able to tell you everything they want and what they need we have to look at them and know what they want. It's just like taking care of a new born baby, the baby won't be able to tell you everything that he or she wants you figure that out by yourself.
You have to figure out what they need physically, is it food, is it water or even a time play so they won't be emotionally down. Yes we should also be able to know what they need emotionally and otherwise.
We also need to give them a place that would make them feel welcomed and loved . That is why I'm most cases when we want to take very good care of the aged or someone that has gone through a lot we tend to take them out from their previous environment to a better one so they won't remember all that has happened in that old environment. You need to take them out of that place and into a new environment a new home a place that when they wake up to see they would feel glad, a conducive environment for their mental and physical health.
We need to be able to provide them with assistance and if possible daily activities that would keep them mentally stable and physically healthy most especially for the dependent ones, they don't really need to be drowned in what has happened in the past you need to engage them in some new activities so they would forget the past and be able to move on with their life. We can even bring some of their friends to come chat with them so they could talk about their happy life's together
While taking care of the aged and dependent, you need to also monitor their medical needs, their medical health for them to be healthy. We need to be able to run medical check ups from time to time so as to know what and what is wrong with them and how to go about it. And during this check-ups, you don't need to take them to a pharmacy that you think would be able to run the test, you need to take them to the professionals (Doctor) so as to make sure that the proper tests are conducted.
While taking care of the aged you need to be able to provide emotional support for them anything that would make them feel loved even if is getting them an emotional support animal like a Dog you can get it for them, because as we all know a dog is a good emotional support animal unlike any other domestic animals.
We should also try to be there for them whenever they need us to be there with them because it's not every time the dog* would be able to support them, they also need human support, human feeling around them, they need to be able to interact with people so they could keep their social life going and be happy.
Emotional support is one of the basic and most important part we need to understand when it comes in terms of taking care of the aged not just the aged even our loved ones and our kids, we need emotional support to be able to make them feel loved and cared for.
It is a good thing and a great feeling when you're taking care of someone who has also taken care of you when you were young and fragile cause it shows how much you love them and also how much they love you when they did the same thing for you. We need to exercise patience when taking care of an aged person. So, its always advisable to put our feet into their shoes to understand them better. My grandma always like sharing historical happenings within and outside our geographic location and she would expect to you to flow with her and most times you end up sending quality time listening to her stories. Most if the feel disturbed when they can't find anyone to interact with and they feel so excited when you spend quality time with them chatting.

I agree with you that the elderly members of our family cannot present their needs to us many a time. Rather, they feel hesitant to talk about their needs.
Therefore, we should understand their needs. And we should take care of them accordingly.

Emotional support is very much important. Aged people are seeking someone who can understand their emotions and feelings. They become happy when we understand them, they also become emotional more strong.
