This is a very interesting topic which should be discussed. Charity is a virtue. That's too much valid and good one. You said you are inspired from your religion. It talks about charity and serving humanity alot. I believe this is 100% true and as a Muslim I can proudly say my religion always thinks about humanity. All the world religions are respected for us and I think their preaching of doing goods to other at certain point.

It's too good that you are earning for your family and sending them money. You said your father is old now and he can't work. Proud of you dear sister for your courage. You are brave.
