DESCRIBE A BUTTERFLY 🦋

The butterfly is among the most attractive insects in the world. Have six legs, three portions of the body (the head, chest known as thorax, and abdomen) and two antennae not forgetting their beautiful wings. Butterflies obtain the juice from the nectar of a flower as their only food since they don't have any teeth to chew.

Butterflies are easily found around flowers during daylight. The body of butterflies is coated with tiny sensory hairs. They have four wings and six legs which are attached to the thorax (chest) which contains the muscles that make the legs and wings move, thus, making them good fliers.

WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM THE LIFE STAGES OF A BUTTERFLY?

Butterflies like most insects undergo complete evolution through four different life stages. Which includes;

1st Stage; EGG:
Like most insects, a butterfly's life cycle starts as an egg, often laid on a leaf by a female adult butterfly.

2nd Stage; LARVA:

The larva also known as a caterpillar is the second stage which results from the hatching of the egg. Caterpillars feed on leaves or flowers, and also lose their old skin several times as it grows and increases up to several thousand times in size.

3rd Stage; PUPA:

The caterpillar turns into a pupa also known as chrysalis or cocoon; this is known as the resting stage before becoming an adult butterfly.

4th Stage; ADULT:
The pupal skin breaks and a beautiful adult butterfly climbs out, and after its wings have broadened and dried, it flies off. Thus, continuing the life cycle.

The phases of a butterfly symbolise a conceit of transformation and hope.
It serves as a symbol of resurrection and rebirth for the victory of the spirit and the soul over the physical.

HAVE YOU SEEN ONE BEFORE? IF YES, WHERE?

Yes, I would be surprised if anyone would return a "No" to this question, I believe that butterflies are everywhere in the world notwithstanding their region even though they tend to come out when the weather is warm. Here in Nigeria, We see butterflies on the fields every blessed day as long as it's not raining.

ARE THEY IMPORTANT TO MAN, AND WHAT SIGNIFICANT ROLE DO THEY PLAY IN HUMAN LIFE?

Butterflies are very much of importance to man as any other pollinator is to man.
One might not want caterpillars as they eat the leaves of our plants in your garden, but that is just a stage in the life of a butterfly. There’s more to butterflies than adding colours and beauty to our gardens.

Butterflies are very good for our gardens because when attracted to bright flowers to feed on the nectar their bodies collect pollen and carry it to other plants which in turn helps fruits, vegetables and flowers to produce new seeds. Thereby serving as a pollinator.

They serve also as an indicator of a good and healthy functioning Ecosystem as they’re a good dietary source for birds, spiders, lizards, mice and other animals.

DO YOU LIKE BUTTERFLIES?

Like I've said earlier, everyone loves butterflies, Myself included, even though we can not say the same about the caterpillar.

CONCLUSION

Most humans see butterflies as insects and of no contribution to humans, but I am telling you today that we need butterflies, thus, they deserve to be protected. Butterflies contribute to a thriving ecosystem and thereby demonstrate the state of an ecosystem’s health.
