Writing Expedition Thursday || Elena and the River by @rossnenye by @rossnenye
Elena was an twelve old girl. She lives with her father and step mother. Her mom died few years back. After mourning her for a while, her dad remarried. Her father got married to her mother's friend aunty Simi.
The dad got married to her because of the way she took care of Elena when her mother died. When Elena's dad got married to her newly, she was very nice to Elena. She suddenly changed when got pregnant. It became worse when she gave birth to her daughter. She automatically turned Elena to a maid. She also poisoned Elena's father's mind against her.
She beats and maltreated the poor girl at any slightest provocation. Elena's does literally everything in the house. She cooks and cleans the house, fetches water from the village river, works in their farmland and also helps her step mother in her shop. At a point, her step mom stopped her from going to school, her reason was that she wanted her to take care of her child until the baby starts walking and that was how Elena stopped going to school.
In their village, they have a river called the eke river. People were not allowed to fetch water from the stream on the eke market day, reason being that the gods of the land usually come to the stream on eke day. It happened that Elena forgot to fetch water a day to the eke day because she came back very late from the market. The next day, her wicked step mother sent her to the river to fetch water. She pleaded with her to allow her fetch it the next day but she refuses. Elena later went to the river.
On getting there, she met the river goddess and pleaded with her to allow her to fetch water. The river goddess said she had a good heart and allowed her to fetch water. After fetching the water she saw a shinning bracelet inside her bucket. When she brought it out, she discovered it was the King's gold necklace he has been looking for a while. He even promised to reward whomever finds it. Elena ran from the river to the king's palace, she didn't even remember her bucket of water. The King was very pleased with her, he adopted her and took care of her. He also helped her family.
