**SEC17 WK:#4: the effects of economic hardships on families ** by @rossnenye
The economy hardship is seriously affecting my family, currently we board public transportation to everywhere, sometimes we even have to trek just to save money. For sometimes now, our light had issues and we use generator to generate electricity. We only leave our generator on for an hour each day in order to charge our phones because the price of petrol is very high.
We have also cut down on frivolous spending in order to survive. Imagine, my parents are still earning the same amount of money they were earning when things were rosy in my Country. All my siblings in higher institutions are all doing business in order to survive.

- Conflict in the home
When the man of the house is unable to take care of the family, there is usually friction in the home.
- Suicidal thoughts
Most times when people find it quite hard to cater for their family they can suffer from depression which can lead to having suicidal thoughts.
- Social Vices
Economy hardship can make people to indulge in social vices like stealing, kidnapping, money ritualism, online fraud e.t.c
- Dropping out from school
I had a friend that dropped out from school in our second year because he lost his father and things because very tough for his mother and she couldn't pay him school fees. This is one of the effects of economy hardship.

- Multiple sources of income
Since the economy meltdown, the people surviving are those who have multiple sources of income. Currently we have a farm in the village, where we cultivate different crops ranging from Cassava, corn, yam e.t.c.
- Reduce Expenses
Currently in my house we have cut down on so many things, for instance when the price of indomie became costly, we went for cheaper noodles. Secondly, we don't use our family car all the time. We usually use public transportation in order to cut down on expenses.
- Bulk buying
We also buy things in quantity because buying things in quantity is cheaper.
- Writing a list before going to the market
We also write a list of things we want to get from the market before going to the market, to avoid spending on frivolities.
- Prayer
God is the provider of everything, we pray to him at altimes to provide for us even in the economy meltdown.

I know a little bit about the situation in Nigeria, people are going through a lot of hardship there. If the economy of the country is bad, it will definitely affect the common people and it will affect the family. It can be seen that various bad effects will fall in our family. Complete agree that suicide cases are increasing and crime is also increasing day by day due to low income, high expenses and no hope of recovery. Depressed patients either do murders or suicide. It is worldwide problem.

It is becoming worrisome and a keg of gun power waiting to off. The hardship does not know color or language. It is bitting hard, families are readjusting, and applying survival intinct approaches to keep up their game. We just need to devise new ways of earning and avoid the devastating mental and emotional effect of economic hardships. Good luck

The rate at which this economic meltdown is going should be tamed. It's because it has affected literally everything in the market. Imagine going to purchase a good and discovered later that it's doubled the price you knew.
It's something that can cause different disasters to family like family conflicts, illegal activities like child trafficking, etc. It's nad and needs to be stopped. Good luck on your entry.
