Healthy living is a broad topic, which has to do with our overall physical, mental and emotional well-being. It involves observing practices that promotes our general well-being.

What is healthy living?

It can be defined as the practices we observe to promote over all wellbeing.

Nutrition and Diet

The meal we eat determines how healthy we would be. Proper diet, is the meal that contains the basic six classes of Food.

  • Consume meals rich in vegetables, fruits and whole grains.

  • Eat more of organic food and less processed food. Organic food are natural food, According to researches, processed food tends to cause serious ailment like cancer, kidney and liver problems.

  • Hydrate regularly, drink plenty of water, research has shown that human beings should drink atleast of water daily inorder to stay hydrated.

  • Incorporate fruits and vegetables in your daily meal plan.

  • Eat home prepared meals often because most of the food sold in different eateries aren't prepared in a good sanitary condition.

The importance of exercise in our lives cannot be over emphasized, to live healthy, exercise like walking, trekking, jogging and yoga is a must.

Tips for incorporating physical exercises in our daily lives

  • Start little, start with shorter duration of exercise then increase it as time goes by.

  • Start with your favorite exercise, begin with exercise that makes you happy.

  • Be consistent, make it a habit to keep up with your exercise routine.

  • Listen to your body, take a break if you're tired, don't push yourself too hard.

Sleep is very essential for our overall wellbeing, it is a period we cool off and relax. During sleep, your body is working to support your brain function and maintain your physical health. During sleep, our body relaxes, replenish strength, builds stronger bones muscles and also repair worn out tissues. During sleep, our body cleans waste from the body thereby reducing the risk of neurodegenerative diseases. Sleep also helps to boost our moods, improves cognitive function and memory retention.

  • We sleep in a neat airy environment.

  • Wear comfy clothes to sleep.

  • Do not sleep in a noisy place.

  • Get atleast 7 to 8 hours of sleep on a daily basis.

Preventive Care and Health Maintenance

Preventive Care and Health Maintenance is important for our general well-being. It has to do with the various measures we observe in order to prevent sickness, detect health issues early, and management of acute medical conditions. It also helps to improve our mental clarity. By taking proactive steps towards preventive Care and Health Maintenance, individuals can take control over their health. It also entails

  • Staying up to date on recommended vaccinations.

  • Avoiding unhealthy habits like drinking, excessive intake of alcohol.

  • Going for routine medical checkups and screening in order to monitor one's health and discover any potential health issues.

  • Maintaining good healthy relationships with family and friends.

  • Limiting Screen Time to less than 2 hours per day, and prioritizing reading educational and creative books.

Self-care

Self care is quite important for our well-being, it has to do with taking proper care of our body.

*Prioritize things that makes you happy like dancing, singing, reading, swimming or spending time in nature.

  • Smiling, Research has shown that being happy helps us to live a long healthy life.

  • Take a break, our daily activities as human can be overwhelming at times, but we should always prioritize our general way being by taking a break.

  • Leisure time, create time for fun like hanging out with friends, swimming, spending time with family etc.

  • Set boundaries, you can't please everybody, learn to say no to extra tasks that can cause you stress.
