What is Poverty?

Poverty is a condition when a person or group of people do not have sufficient resources To meet their basic needs, both physical needs, such as food, clothing and shelter, as well as non-physical needs, such as education ,health care and access To services base.

Poverty can be measured in relative or absolute terms. Relative poverty measurement refers To a comparison of a person's level of income or wealth with the level of income or wealth of other people In a population. Meanwhile ,the measurement of absolute poverty is based on certain thresholds which are set as The minimum standard required for a decent Life.

There are several factors that can lead to poverty, including lack of employment or low income, inequality in the distribution of resources, conflict and war, lack of access To education and health care, as well as structural factors involving government policies and economic systems.

Poverty has a broad impact on individuals and society. This can lead To hunger, malnutrition, reduced life expectancy, uncontrolled disease, lack of access to quality education ,and a cycle of poverty that is difficult to break through.

International organizations ,governments and civil society seek To overcome the problem of poverty through poverty alleviation programs that Involve direct assistance ,economic development ,education ,health and community Empowerment.

List and explain 5 causes of poverty
  • Economic Inequality :
Inequity in the distribution of economic resources is one of the main causes of poverty. When wealth and income are concentrated in a few people or groups, while the majority of the population has limited access, significant economic disparities are created. This results in ongoing poverty which is difficult To overcome.

  • Economic Instability :
Economic instability, including recession, high inflation, or fluctuations in food and energy prices, can lead to poverty. People who depend on low-paying jobs or unstable jobs are more vulnerable to sudden changes in the economy. When employment decreases or wages stagnate, these people are more likely To fall into poverty.

  • Lack of Access to Education :
Lack of access to and quality of education can be a barrier to the economic progress of individuals and families. People who do not receive adequate education usually have limited job opportunities and are likely To have difficulty upgrading their skills. This can result in lower incomes and an increased risk of poverty.

  • Gender Inequality :
Gender inequality and discrimination against women are also significant causes of poverty. Women often face limited access To education, fair employment opportunities, land ownership and access to financial resources. This limits their economic potential and negatively affects their lives and those of their families.

  • Political Conflict and Instability :
Armed conflict, political instability and social violence often destroy infrastructure, disrupt the economy and hinder sustainable economic development. Conflict-affected people often lose access To resources, jobs, and basic services such as education and health care. This can result in an increase in the poverty rate in the affected area.

Explain at least five consequences of poverty
  • Hunger and Malnutrition :
Poverty often results in hunger and a lack of access to sufficient and nutritious food. People living in poverty may not be able To afford food that meets their nutritional needs, leading to malnutrition, stunting in children, and other health problems. Malnourishment can have an impact on physical, cognitive and emotional growth and development, as well as cause a decrease in productivity.

  • Lack of Access to Health Services :
Poverty often hinders access to quality health services. Poor people may not be able to afford medical care, medicines, or health insurance. As a result, they are at higher risk of preventable, undiagnosed or untreated diseases, which in turn can lead To reduced quality of life, increased mortality and a perpetual cycle of poverty.

  • Limited Access to Education :
Poverty can lead to limited access to quality education. School fees, books, uniforms, and other related costs are often an obstacle for the poor in obtaining adequate education. A lack of education can limit employment opportunities, fuel poverty for generations ,and limit an individual's potential for social and economic progress.

  • Inadequate Housing :
People living in poverty often face difficulties in meeting their need for adequate housing. They may live in slum neighborhoods, slum settlements ,or places with poor infrastructure. Inadequate housing can result in vulnerability To disease, violence ,and unhealthy environmental conditions.

  • Social Instability and Low Social Mobility :
Poverty can create social instability and low social mobility. The poor may be trapped in a cycle of poverty that is difficult to break through. Lack of access To decent work and economic opportunities can generate social instability, increase tension and conflict in society ,and reinforce social inequalities.

What are the poverty alleviation strategies you know and how can it helps reduce poverty

Social assistance programs, such as social benefits ,supplementary food programs, or income support programs, can help reduce immediate poverty by providing financial assistance To individuals or families who are in economically vulnerable situations. This social assistance can help them meet their basic needs and provide a social safety net.

  • Increasing Access to Education :
Investing in education is key to reducing long-term poverty. Improving access to and quality of education for children from poor families can provide them with better opportunities to develop the skills and knowledge needed To secure better jobs in the future. Scholarship programs, free or subsidized schools, and community education programs can help increase access to education.

  • Economic Empowerment :
Encouraging economic empowerment is an Important strategy in reducing poverty. This involves providing poor individuals with access To capital, skills and training in order To create small businesses ,Improve employability skills, or find better jobs. Skills training programmes, microenterprise partnerships and job placement services can help Increase economic opportunities for those in poverty.

Can steemit helps alleviate poverty? Explain

Steemit is a blockchain-based social media platform that allows users To create and share content and earn rewards in cryptocurrency, such as Steem or Steem Dollars. Although Steemit can provide additional income opportunities for some individuals, it does not directly help eradicate poverty as a whole.

The profits generated from Steemit are highly dependent on popularity, content quality, and interaction with other users. Those with interesting content and able To build a large following may be able To earn bigger rewards. However, for many people who are just joining or don't have access To adequate resources ,achieving financial success through Steemit can be a challenge.

Poverty reduction involves more complex and pervasive issues ,such as economic inequality ,access to Education and basic services ,social inequality and lack of economic opportunity. Focusing solely on platforms like steemit will not address the root causes of poverty.

Nevertheless, Steemit and similar platforms can provide some benefits To individuals who are in difficult economic situations. This platform can provide opportunities for those who have skills
In producing interesting content or have specialized knowledge sought by the online community. This can help them earn additional income or even start a career as a Digital content creator.

It is important to remember that Steemit and similar platforms are only one aspect of poverty alleviation efforts. A more comprehensive and sustainable solution must involve programs of economic empowerment, increased access To education, infrastructure development and broad policy support.

Closing

In the effort to eradicate poverty, every small contribution and step can have a significant impact. It is important to continue to raise awareness, take concrete action, and support poverty alleviation efforts at the individual, community and global levels. With collaboration and shared commitment, we can create a more just world, where every individual has equal opportunities To develop and prosper.

Poverty eats deep into the wellbeing and proper functioning of individuals and the society as a whole.

With proper measures in place, it can certainly be reduced drastically to a reasonable level though total eradication is not always assured.

It's true what you say!
