Portrait drawing using scribbling shading technique

Hello friends, how are you all doing today? I hope all is well and you all are having a nice day. Today, we will be making another portrait drawing using a different shading technique called scribbling.

Yesterday, we made a portrait drawing using the blurring shading technique, which is actually the most common shading technique that we all know. I bet that very few people have heard of scribbling before. Well, today you all will see and know what scribbling is all about and how it is used.

Some of the materials that I will be using to carry out my drawing are;

• Plain white paper
• Black ball pen

STEP 1

In the first step, as usual, I started by sketching out the outlines of my face in a very accurate way in order to get the shape well and in the right proportion. After I'd finished sketching out the face, I started to apply the scribbling shade.

STEP 2

In the second step, after I'd already covered the entire face with scribble lines, as seen in the above picture, you can see the effects of light and shade. From that, you can actually tell where light rays are coming from (direction of light).

This can be achieved by ensuring that wherever in the picture your drawing appears to be darker than the rest, you then make the scribble lines in that area highly concentrated and thicker than those in the direction of light (highlight).

In the final step, I had finished the drawing, and I must say that it came out very nice and sharper than I expected. I have been using this shading technique to draw some other objects, but not often. However, this is actually my first time using scribbling to make a portrait drawing, and I must confess it is very nice to use and a lot quicker compared to other shading techniques.
