SEC17 WK:#1: Forgiveness unites family
None of us can say we've never offended our relatives. NONE OF US!. On one occasion or the other, we have all offended our relatives, causing them pain and anguish either with our words, or actions. At times like this, FORGIVENESS is what keeps us together. It is an crucial in achieving relationships worthy of keeping and cherishing.
But then, what exactly is forgiveness? How does it foster family unity. Let's find out.
The Concept Of Forgiveness |

Forgiveness has been defined in different ways. I'll list a few.
Forgiveness is the ability to free the mind of all hurtful deeds experienced in the past.
Forgiveness is the act of letting go of the desire to get even or revenge on someone who hurt us
Forgiveness involve changing our feelings and behaviour towards the offender, not because they're too good to receive such behaviour but because we love the offender and want to let go.
Effects of not forgiving |

Trust me, research has shown that bearing grudges does more harm than good. I'll list a few side effects of not forgiving.
According to health professionals, when we don't forgive, our body produces chemicals such as cortisone. Accumulation of these chemicals can lead to headache and abdominal pains. If left unchecked, it can metamorphose into ulcer, or even gastritis.
When family members fail to forgive each other, achieving closeness is impossible. The offender feels indebted to the offended, while the offended's obsession with seeking revenge holds him in bondage as well.

Religious organisations have long taught that forgiveness is important as it is only when we forgive that our God forgives us.
Scientists however, have also discovered more benefits of forgiveness. According to them, forgiveness is important as it reduces chronic pain, cardiovascular problems, depression, anxiety, and several other problems.

We've said alot about forgiveness. At this point, we can all agree that forgiveness is pivotal for happy family life. For couples, they must have to forgive each other. Parents have to forgive their children, children also have to forgive their parents.
But then, what steps can we take to make forgiveness happen? Let's find out.

The following steps can help us:
Set aside a perfect time to talk about the problem. The time should be convenient for both the offender and the offended.
Talk about the problem. Let both parties express their opinions freely so the root of the problem can be spotted.
The offender apologizes
The offended accepts the apology
The offender refrains from doing the thing that caused the offense.

The truth of the matter is this; sometimes someone might offend us and REFUSE to apologise. Some other times, they even fail to realise they have offended us. At times like that, we have to let love lead. Let us forgive FREELY from our heart. When we do so, UNITY can be achieved.

Forgiveness is no doubt a very important ingredient in all kinds of relationships.
Humans are imperfect so from time to time we might do or say something we shouldn't or something that doesn't sit well with the other person (s) involved. The ability to understand and forgive comes in play here, especially when the person in question acknowledges their wrong action or words.

Of course, it is true that conflict is bound to occur in a family, which leads to one offending each other,so no family is a saint, but one thing that keeps us going is when we learn to forgive, however following certain steps like the offender apologizing, talking about the problem could really aid forgiveness, I also learnt a lot here

It's true that forgiveness is pivotal for happy family life, when family join hand together, that's the parents and the children forgive one another, there's a guarantee of a united family. In this aspect, parents must be an exampler and the children will follow. In a situation whereby the parents can't forgive themselves as couple because of some certain issues, it'll be hard for the kids to imitate. You have a detailed post here bro.
