Wednesday – I spy with my little eye – Mini contest (28)
Hello kids and parents!
And it is Wednesday!
Wednesday and I know that there are a few of you sitting on the edge of your chairs waiting to see the answer to last week’s game.
Before I give the answer, the clues one more time!
1. It is a 10-letter word starting with the letter "S"
2. It can be written as one or two words (compound word)
3. You put something inside it
4. It is often labeled with an "S"
Hold onto your hat… here we go!
And the word is ... SALTSHAKER!
Gotcha!
It was indeed an interesting week of answers. Most of you got it right with the "store" guessing as a saltshaker or salt shaker is indeed used to "store" salt.
Thank you for putting smiles on my face this week.
According to the Merriam-webster dictionary a saltshaker is “a container with a perforated top for sprinkling salt”.
Of interest:
🧂 There is even a Unicode character for a saltshaker.
🧂 The first known use of a saltshaker dates back as far as 1895.
🧂The use of saltshakers became popular in the 1920s together with peppershakers and is normally sold in a set.
🧂Saltshakers are often labeled with an “S” as seen in the image.
🧂 People collect saltshakers as a hobby because of the various designs and materials that are used to make them.
🧂 Which shaker has the most holes, salt or pepper? There is no set rule. In general, the number of holes in the top depends on taste and culture. You will even find those who say that it is not the number of holes that counts but the size of the holes.
🧂 Believe it or not, there are two salt and pepper shaker museums in the world. One in the USA and the other in Spain.
🧂 An article in the Washington Post, 5 Aug. 2021 mentioned a pica patient (someone with an eating disorder) who swallowed 1446 objects among which the tops of saltshakers.
And that brings us to the winner... Again, no winner!
Is my little eye too good for you?
The prize for next week will now be 6 STEEM.
Time for your next game!
The game is exactly like last week;
The game “I spy with my little eye” is sort of a detective game. The “spy” is the person who sees something and the rest of the players must then guess what the spy is seeing.
Of importance, it must be something that you can see and not something you can feel like an emotion.
BUT, “I spy with my little eye” is so much more than just a spy game;
- It is a thinking game
- It teaches you how to use your logic and reasoning and
- It grows your vocabulary
The contest
For today I am going to give you the letter with which the word starts plus 4 points or “clues” which you can take into consideration to figure out what the word can be.
Ready or not… let’s learn, play and win!
I spy with my little eye something that begins with the letter “C”.
1. It looks like 10 is the lucky number, again 10 letters in this word
2. It can be a person or animal
3. It can be the nature or reputation
4. It can even be an emblem or symbol
