Hello kids and parents!

I trust the new year is treating you all well and that you are still sticking to those new year's resolutions.
Do you know that 52% of Americans have "to exercise more" as number 1 on their list and only 37% to spend time with family and friends?

Last week we started the New Year with 4 new clues;

1. It is a 10-letter word that starts with the letter “P”.
2. It is a compound word
3. It is associated with small
4. It can be an insult

And the word is ... PIPSQUEAKS!

Grammarist.com refers to a pipsqueak as follows;

A pipsqueak is an insignificant person, usually small or young. Pipsqueak is a term of contempt. Slang synonyms are short round, and squirt.
Pipsqueak is an echoic word, which imitates a sound. Pipsqueak seems to have first appeared in the 1890s. It comes from the words pip, which refers to a small thing, and squeak, a word which signifies the sound that a small bird or animal makes under duress.

Just like that, we've learned about "echoic words" today.

There are so many different variations of where the word pipsqueak originates from;

Soldiers in World War I describe a small German shell as something "which makes both a pip and a squeak when it comes over the trenches."

In World War II the British Royal Air Force referred to a radio navigation used by them as a "pipsqueak"

An election promise from a German candidate, Eric Geddes, whereby he promised to "squeeze the German lemon until the pips squeak."

These days we find animated characters with the name "Pipsqueak" in children's books, movies, and TV shows.

The game “I spy with my little eye” is sort of a detective game. The “spy” is the person who sees something and the rest of the players must then guess what the spy is seeing.

Of importance, it must be something that you can see and not something you can feel like an emotion.

BUT, “I spy with my little eye” is so much more than just a spy game;

• It is a thinking game
• It teaches you how to use your logic and reasoning and
• It grows your vocabulary
