Weekly Drawing Contest|| Week #33 Begins: Draw Any Bird Of Your Choice And Tell Us What We Can Learn From The Bird

Hurray!!! It is another beautiful bright day and its awesome to be alive.

Greetings to you all dear wonderful steemians, hope you all are doing great. It is my pleasure coming your way again through my participation in this Weekly drawing contest || Week #33 Begins: Draw Any Bird of your choice and tell us what we can learn from the bird. The organiser @eliany of the Steem Kids & Parents Community is doing well to help of learn from nature as well as improve our creativity while adding candour to the platform. Hence, I'm going to draw a Toucan bird and I hope you all will find it interesting.

Now I Begin My Toucan Bird Drawing

Materials Needed

• Pencil
• A4 White Paper
• Crayon
• Eraser

The Steps

Step 1

I start drawing my Toucan bird from its long bill/mouth

Then extend to the head and the neck

Step 2

I then draw the body part of the bird alongside the branch of tree it sits on

Thereafter, I add the tail to the bird.

Step 3

Since the bird usually have black feathers, I then use my crayon to apply the black colour

Then I shade the yellow colour at the neck and the off red narrow colour around the nexk. This help to make it more real.

Step 4

I apply a touch of red, green and off red shading to the long bill/mouth, then I also shade the tree branch and add the leaves to it.

I then add the bird name as well as my username.

After finishing with the draeing, I took a selfie with it.

Description of the Toucan Bird

Toucan bird are members of the Neotropical near passerine bird in the family of Ramphastidae. These birds are brightly marked and often have large, colorful bills which they use as an excavation tool. Their tail is rounded and varies in length, mostly from half the length to the whole length of the body. They have short and thick neck. Their wings are small, as they are forest-dwelling birds that only need to travel some short distances. Their legs are strong and rather short, while their toes are arranged in pairs with the first and fourth toes turning backward.

Where do they live?

Toucan makes their nests in tree hollows and holes that is excavated by other animals such as woodpeckers and live there.

What does it eat, tell us about the lifestyle of a Toucan.

Toucan birds eat mostly fruit, hence, being frugivorous. But they are opportunistically omnivorous because they take prey on insects, smaller birds, and small lizards within sight as researches shows. As part of their lifestyle they enjoy plundering nests of smaller birds, taking eggs and nestlings. Apart from being a predator to others as well as frugivorous, they particularly prefer other animal food for feeding their chicks.

Are they important to man, what significant role do they play in humans life? Tell us the importance of a toucan, do they have any nutritional value if we are to eat it?

Toucan are important to man. They are dominantly frugivores, and as such, they play an extremely important ecological role as vectors for seed dispersal of fruiting trees which are found today in most part where they were once scarce. These trees when they are grown becomes important to man. As for their nutitional value, they have fat, Sodium, Carbohydrate, Dietary Fiber, Sugar as well as Protein. Though in Nigeria, it is not hunted for food, but other part of the world enjoy it as food.

If they are dangerous to man tell us their dangerous part

There is every tendency for human to be afraid of toucan due to their long beak which is actually very lightweigh but despite its large size, toucans cannot cause significant bite injury to man, hence they are not totally dangerous.

Do you encourage us to have it at home, what do you think?

Yes. Toucans can make excellent pets at home. The fact is, they are not only beautiful and smart, they are also very playful and affectionate animals. They are unique and exotic pet companion.
