Honesty Is The Best Policy

When your mind tells you that what you're about to do isn't good, and you decide to do the right thing, it teaches you to be honest with yourself.

Even though you know that if you lie, it seems easier but the best course of action to take is telling the truth, that's being honest.

The Story

This story is about my friend, Doctor Fred. As he's fond of telling me how to be good. His advice has kept me this far in life and earned me a good name. He talks alot about life and the lessons it has taught him.

When he was born, at a tender age, he lost his father that was the bread winner of the house. His poor widowed mother was the second wife and a housewife. So, in other to survive with her children, she had to go out and find what to do.

All hope of Fred going to school and becoming the doctor he wanted was lost. He was left in the village with his mother and siblings. But what the mother could offer was to teach them the necessities of life. Love, kindness, honesty, forgiveness, etc.

Fred was the last born of the family, so he was made to sweep the compound everyday. Out of joy, he had a particular style he used to sweep. Keeping a particular broom line pattern on the floor. So, one day, unexpectedly, his step sisters husband came to visit, he asked of the boy that used to sweep the compound and Fred was called.

The inlaw said he liked his pattern,that he would like him to come live with him in the city and be sweeping his compound for him. Fred's mother told him to follow the man and reminded him of the good things she has taught him.

On arriving the city, Fred had to join the other maids to doing chores. His permanent duty was to sweep the compound every morning and evening. So, one day ,the man called Fred to go get money from his client for him. Fred went and got the money for him and it was complete.

Subsequent times,the man started taking Fred along with him for his transactions at the bank. Fred was made to be handling the man's brief case. Not one day was any money called shot.

So, one day the man called Fred to call his sister for him, out of fear of returning back to the village, Fred was scared and curious and started begging the man, the man told him he had nothing to worry about.

When his sister came, the man told her in his presence that Fred's honesty with his money and credentials has moved him to what to do something for him. Fred was asked to choose between going to school and learning a trade.

So he choosed going to school, and the man sent told the wife, whether he's alive or dead, that Fred should be trained to a higher level school and he was made to do part time work to be paid by the man.

Unfortunately, the man died after 4 years but Fred was almost done with his nursing school. He served up and saw himself through medical school, today, he's now a Doctor. His honesty, paved way for him. So, in life, Honesty is the best policy.
