Greetings to everyone going through my post this very moment. I am so delighted to participate in this amazing contest by @steemkidss .

It is a privilege to be a mother and to also have a child under my custody. When a child is given to parents, there are some expectations required, and discipline is one of them.

Child upbringing/ discipline is not always an easy task. It requires patience and time. We are always in a haste to discipline a child, hence beating.....

DO YOU HAVE A CHILD YOU ARE RAISING?

Yes, I have a child am raising. His name is Gallant Michael chijioke. He is four years old. A very smart boy to the core. But it's not so easy with him .

THE BEST WAY TO DISCIPLINE A CHILD

DISCIPLINE is a training given to people to help them obey rules. It is also a punishment to correct disobedience.

FirstIy, I would say that a child is a gift from God mother. So if you want to have the best child, you must be ready to discipline your child in the right manner.

To discipline a child, you must tell a child the wrongs the rights. What you want them to do and what you don't want, "use good tone, use calm words and be nice". Most times,we don't have time to show or tell our children/child some basic things they ought to know, then when they make some mistakes,we tend to spank.

Secondly, you must map out some rules guiding your home, draw them close and talk to them. Let them know what they must do at every given time. This is where you don't need to go, Don't be harsh

Explain calmly to them the consequences for anyone who don't follow the rules. Example; you can go by saying; "if you don't do your homework at the hours of six, I will put away all your toys for the next one week". Then be sure to stand your ground, don't give it back after a few moment.

Try also to notice when that child has done good and appreciate him, it also helps them to continue doing good.

Thirdly, Attention matters a whole lot. Attention is the most impressive device for productive discipline. Attention here requires your time. When you don't have time for your child, how can he get the attention he seeks?
Always allow the child to finish what he wants to say to you before you shut him up. Shutting him up in the middle scares him away. When you give attention, the bond between you and your child grows deeply.

Lastly,try to ignore bad behaviors because it can be an effective way of stopping it. Example; you may have warned your child to stop sitting on the floor because an ant might sting him, but no, he prefers sitting on the floor just to know if the ant will sting him. Just allow him/her to continue sitting on the floor until the day ant stings him, then he will stop sitting on the floor by himself. You are just ignoring his bad behavior just to teach him a lesson.

Note:

If you are too angry to bear your child, just cool off. You can leave the house for a while and take a deep breath. When you finally return, call your child and hug him. It makes him feel loved and safe.

MUST YOU BEAT A CHILD TO DISCIPLINE HIM/HER?

My answer is. "NO." Reasons:
Spanking in any form does not work well when correcting a child's behavior or to discipline a child. Beating a child increases the anger in him, and he tends to misbehave the more. Beating does more harm than good to a child. Sometimes, a child who is been beaten all the time, takes such character outside to hit his fellow, just because he is bitter. Yes, beating can cause bitterness.

Children loves to be pet, they always want to be close to their parents. But when you beat them, you scare them away. As little as they are, they have feelings. Don't ignore that feelings, saying "he is a child", No. A child is a human and needs to be loved other than hate. Beating a child can affect him/her mentally. It can make him loose focus in school, concentration in reading. Beating a child kills his emotional stability.

I say no to beating any child, I mean beating of any kind.

WHAT MODE OF DISCIPLINE DID YOUR PARENTS USE ON YOU?

Hahahaha! Growing up was great. Well, the little I can remember because I know I was about the ages of 6-7 years then.
My mom will always use a cane on us because she has this believe that heating or flogging a child is the ultimate key to discipline. Whenever we misbehave, she will quietly leave you to run all you can, then that moment you feel she has forgotten about it, she strikes! But my dad uses the cane on us once a while. But he gives us punishment rather than fogging.
