Hello friends,
Welcome to my blog, trust you are doing so well wherever you are. It's another week of contest and am glad to be among the participants. Last week was so great, as we learnt a lot about culture and it's similarities.
This week's topic "Social Problems." Looking into our society today, there are a lot of social issues affecting our society some of which I will pin point in this post. I will be so glad if you journey with me through this post as I answer some of the asked questions, to learn more about these social issues in our society today.
What are social issues or problems? |
---|
Social Issues are problems or consequences that has negative effects on many people within the society. These problems can disrupt or damage a society hence, it has to be looked into and handle effectively.
List Ten social problems in your country |
---|
In Nigeria, we have lots of social problems affecting the society, but in the course of this topic ,I will list just 10.
•High Child Mortality Rate
•Terrorisim
•Poor Educational Standard
•Tribalism
•High Unemployment Rate
•National Identity
•Domestic violence
•Inequality
•Corruption
•Poverty
What are the causes of the five of the problems listed? |
---|
•DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Alcoholism: Excessive drinking and smoking can be a common factor to domestic violence. This can lead to an abusive behaviour of a partner to the other and if not controlled on time, can lead to constant need to maintain and manage by the victim.
Mental Problem: Mental problems like anxiety, depression, personal disorder, drugs can lead to the mental state of a person hence, causing domestic violence.
Poverty and Unemployment: people in financial stress are most likely to fall victim of this. Homelessness can make a young lady fall for domestic violence so as to have a place to call her home. Most of the victims in poverty find it difficult to escape domestic violence.
•POOR EDUCATIONAL STANDARD
High Tuition Fees: There are a lot of drop out from school. Nigeria recorded over 10.5 million drop outs due to high tuition fees. That is why we have public schools because of it's affordability, but still not everyone can afford it. When a child cannot get a proper education required, he/she will end up have a poor or no educational standard.
Corruption: Examination malpractice has eaten up the educational system in Nigeria. Teachers and lecturers promote it so openly that students no longer have the time to read their books. Since the students can gladly pay some amount of money to get a certain grade, then there is no need to waste midnight candles. This alone has a great effect on the society
Low Level of Infrastructure: In most public schools Nigeria, there are no chairs and tables, no ventilated classrooms for learning, bushes everywhere. Because the government promote the private schools more because of the money involved, they let the public schools suffer decay and thus, making the poor masses to have poor level of education.
•INEQUALITY
This can also be a major social problems in the society. We have gender inequality, age inequality, class inequality, religion, ethnicity etc. These factors can be seen in our daily life, around us and our society.
•HIGH CHILD MORTALITY RATE
There are a lot of causes leading to child mortality rate, these causes can include;
°The use of infant formula as substitute to breast milk.
°Inadequate medical attention from parents to their child.
°Poor environment and water quality.
°Malnourished of a breast-feeding mother and that of the infant.
CORRUPTION
There a lot of causes to corruption in our society today. Everywhere is full of of corruption, our environment is so corrupt to the highest level.
°Greed
°Lack of selfless service.
°Lack of right attitude to work.
°Illiteracy
°Lack of patriotism
°Apathy
These factors can cause corruption in our society today.
What is HIV/AIDS? How does it spread? How can we prevent it? |
---|
HIV Human Immunodeficiency Virus is a virus that attacks the human immune system.
AIDS Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome is the late stage of HIV that occurs when the immune system is properly damaged.
How does it Spread?
Since this virus is a transmitted disease, it can be spread through sexual intercouse, sharing of same spoons and cups, using same syringes on different persons, piercing, through any related body fluid.
How can we Prevent it?
•The use of condoms is advised during premarital sex, but abstinence is the best option.
•Test and treat for STDs.
•Never share needles or syringe with someone.
•Cutdown your number of sexual partners.
• Test for HIV/AIDS every 3 months
Mention and discuss two problems of Social issues to the following: (i) Individual, (ii) Family, (iii) Society. |
---|
INDIVIDUAL
Poverty: poverty is lack and want of either material things or money. High cost of living in Nigeria prevents individuals to meet most of their basic needs. And poverty can lead to prostitution, death, unwanted pregnancy, robbery, and so on.
Unemployment: This is a major risk of social problems on individual. Unemployment is the search of employment opportunities by an individual but unable to get a job. This alone cause frustration to an individual. It destroys their opportunity of being productive.
FAMILY
Conflict: In families today conflict has become the oder of the day. Unemployment have increased conflicts in families. A where an adult is up to the age of bringing money back home but still has no job, but everyone expects him/ her to put food on the table, this can lead to separation in the family thereby causing conflict.
Sexual Immorality: Incest has turn the order in some families today. A father having sex with daughter, sister having sex with nephew, you see all these are social problems today which has brought a lot of damages to families, damages that led to death, rejection etc.
SOCIETY
Terrorism: Terrorism attack in Nigeria such as Boko Haram has brought nothing but death, homelessness, poverty to the society. It has displaced a lot of persons from their homes.
Tribalism: Even till tomorrow, there is no love, peace and unity in Nigeria because of tribe. Nigerians has refused to accept themselves because of ethnic groups.

Saludos y exitos
Thank you so much Sir
