Hello friends,

Welcome to my blog. Today, I bring you an interesting topic titled "Cultural Similarities and Difference." Everyone has their culture and tradition governing them. It could be their pattern of cooking, dressing, greeting etc. Culture is never inbuilt, it is created for the easy way of living of people. It will be so interesting to air your view after reading through.

What are cultural similarities and differences?

Firstly, I would want to elaborate on culture. Culture as we all know is people's way of life. Their beliefs, behaviour, ideas, religion, language. Culture is what differentiate people's dressing, attitude, marriage, etc. When you know the culture of a particular place, you can easily tell when you see someone from there. In my country Nigeria, there are more than 250 ethnic groups that portrays different cultures and Nigeria culture is so beautiful anywhere, anytime. There are 3 major ethnic groups in Nigeria majorly known as Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba. These ethnic groups has their different cultures and traditions governing them

Now, Cultural similarities and Differences.
Cultural Similarities are those cultures that are similar in one country.
Cultural Differences are those cultures that are totally different from each other in a country.

Cultural Similarities

Naming Ceremony: All cultural and religious group give room for their newly born babies to be given a name after some weeks or days of delivery. It is similar in all tribes.

Eating Mode: The mode of eating is common in most places especially the eating with our fingers.

Marriage System: In most places, you see brides tie wrappers around their chest with beads all over.

Respect for Elders: In all communities and culture in Nigeria, respect is a common thing generally. Without minding your social status, elder are well respected every where in Nigeria.

Cultural Difference

Language: There are over 250 languages in Nigeria and each languages are so unique in their own way.

Mode of Dressing: We have different dressings in Nigeria that differentiates one from others. In Igbo land, the women wears a blouse and a wrapper while the men wears caftan with wrapper. The Hausa women wears long clothes that covers their body while the men wears babariga.

Greeting: All ethnic groups in Nigeria have their own pattern of greeting. In some places they prostrate, or kneel to greet while some stand or bow to greet.

Cultural similarities as the name implies, is a similar culture or tradition practiced by different groups in the same Nation or city. In Nigeria we have similarities of culture in different place, but that does not mean that they are all one, it only means that they have somethings in common.

The theory of identity where two persons can be of same skin colour, same like minds, same production, but it doesn't mean they are blood or same nationality or from same family and because of same language or otherwise, people tend to say similarities exist between them. A lot of persons have been pronounced to be the same because of language.

Does your culture make you similar and different? Explain.

My culture which is the Igbo culture, makes me similar in the sense that I have same things in common with others, like going to school, praying first thing in the morning, spending time with family, although the activities attached to it might be different.
My culture also makes me different because every culture can be displayed differently in their own way. So many traditions differs in the Igbo land, our music, our traditions, ceremony.

Because I grew up in the eastern part of Nigeria, Igbo land to be precise, we have various cultures in the Igbo land, languages, dressing and so on. My childhood and adolescent age was spent mainly at Abia state Nigeria, where we also have different and similar cultures. Our dressings were similar, but different in some areas. Our languages were so similar but also different in it's own way. But I am currently in a total strange land off from where I grew up, off from what I knew, and am blending in their culture over here.

In a tabular format, list 5 similarities in the culture of any three ethnic groups in your country.
