It is often said that a healthy child makes a healthy society so to have a vibrant happy society, the child must be healthy. But what factors are responsible for a healthy child? Let's discuss this together.

This article will first briefly discuss the biological factors that are connected to the health of the child then move on to the aspect of nutrition which can impact positively or negatively to the development of the child.

  • What the child inherited from the parents can be a great factor impacting the health of a child. A parent can pass on to the child some physical abnormalities thereby causing constant illness to the child. Some diseases like heart disease, diabetes and obesity are most times the result of Hereditary. When a child inherited one or more of these biological factors, illness is a sure thing. Thankfully, nutrition can suppress to a large extent these biological effects.

Having said that, how might nutrition impact positively on the health of the child? Let's see.

What food to give

Children should be regularly given nutrients packed and balance diet from every group of foods such as

Fibre and energy sources of food

In this group are potatoes, rice, pastas, bread as well as some other starchy foods according to localities. These kinds of food contain both essential vitamins that help the child to develop both in height and weight. Therefore they should be present at each meal.

It's noteworthy to state that food should be given on time and at the right size for each child considering the appetite of a child. Some children eat plenty more than others but when the right kind of food and size is given, the better.

Time to give

For breakfast, a child should eat whole oaths and cereals because they are packed with fibre, vitamins, energy and minerals. Avoid foods that are too salty or sugary which may later cause tooth decay.

For lunch, rice, pasta, or any other solid food can be offered but not fatty foods. It's better to steam, mash or bake potatoes instead of frying them.

Fruits and veggies

To harness a complete pack of vitamins and minerals, it's recommended to give a child varieties of fruits as well as selected vegetables. You can choose among frozen, fresh or dry and juiced fruits. But mind you, juice no matter the number of fruits or vegetables mixed are considered only one count and should not be more than 150ml per serve.

Proteinous foods

These include but not limited to fish, beans and eggs. Children needs protein to function well till adulthood. These group of foods are better than meat, they should be given to children at least twice a week.

Diary meals

It's important to give children milk and other diary meals because they are densely packed vitamins A and D respectively. Prefer milk and water to carbonated drinks. Also minimize salt from children foods especially if they are still very tender.

There are still more to talk about the right kind of food good for the child that are able to keep the child healthy but for want of time and space, let's stop here.

Conclusively, a nutritious diet keeps the child healthy, but a poor eating habit makes the child sick from time to time.

Thanks a lot for coming with me so far.
