You will have heard people say that some children are gifted. Although I do believe that there's no child without potential. Every single person in life has potential and can know anything they put their heart to. Some children that seem to easily have interest in education and learn very fast put their heart to it. While those that seem to be average or poor student don't put their heart to whatever they are learning.

The good news is that, a child who seems to be very poor and doesn't perform very well can be helped. There are ways you can improve their assimilation and have make them interest in learning. I will be suggesting some ways to do this. I hope you find it helpful and try them out.

Make a child believe in Himself.

This is the foundation of that will help whoever wants to learn. Nobody really learns something without believing they can learn it. See, people who learn and do well in life believe that they have potential. They believe in themselves that they can learn anything and know whatever they put their mind to. Learning has do more with mindset. If you have a right mindset, a positive mindset, you will find whatever you are learning interesting. So, if you want to help your child to learn and assimilate, you need to work on his mindset. You need to make him believe in himself. If you want change him, change his mind because nothing changes until the mind is changed.

Believe in your Child

While making him believing in himself is important, making him see you believe in him is also quite helpful to let him learn well and assimilate faster. Children perform very well when they see their parents believe in them. There are factors that may hinder children not to believe in themselves, but when you believe in them, they will eventually come to the understanding of the importance of believing in themselves. See, if you see any child doing well in school and at home, it's because someone somewhere, either their parents, brothers/sisters, uncle/Aunt believe in him. If you want to help your child, you need to let him see that you always believe in him.

Be interested in whatever you want them to learn

If you want your child to learn a subject, then you must let in him see that you are also interested in that particular thing. The reason is, children do well in what they know their parents interested in. They will want to discuss it with their parents. For example, if you want your child to learn music, you need to also play songs at home. That will help him that you are also interested in music. It's not necessary that you start music school. But you can do something that will help your child see that you are interested in what's in studying or learning.

Emphasise difficult words when you are teaching them

Emphasis has a way of helping children remember what they learn. When you emphasize difficult words, they will remember when they need it and when they use it, they will gain confidence and believe in themselves. I remember some years ago, I taught my lil sister a word. I taught her that, instead of telling your teacher to 'come again' or repeat himself when you don't understand what he has explained, you can just tell him to recapitulate. I began to echo the word in her ears... I told her to use the word in school having told her what it means.

The next day, she came back from school, and told me she used the word I taught her yesterday. I already knew something happened the way she was telling me because I could see how her face was glowing as if she won an award. "Tell me how you used it and what your teacher said", I asked my sister. She said, she used the word when the teacher was teaching them. She said I said "recapitulate, I don't understand what you said." Her Teacher was surprised and asked who taught her the word. She now narrated how I taught her. She was very happy because the entire class clapped for her. That stirred more confidence in her.

Promise them something they like

Another way to help a child do well is to promise him to buy or give him something you know he likes if he performs very well. Children actually want to see what you promise them and they will do whatever that will make them receive the promise. If your child likes bicycle, promise him by telling him to come first in his class. He may see it as very difficult, but because he likes bicycle, he will want to do anything possible that will enable him to receive bicycle.

Look for a subject that seems difficult and hire a good tutor for them

It has been said that if a child learns to master a tough difficult, he will perform very well in other subjects. I think this is true and I will give you reason why I believe it is. There are subjects that if you yourself know, you will find other subjects very easy. There are subjects that will make you think enough. And once you are good in them, you may be good in other subjects. One of those subjects is *mathematics. If you can teach your son to know mathematics, he may be good in other subjects. The reason is, if he can be able to solve problems in mathematics, he will be a good thinker. And once he's a good thinker, he will find his way through in other subjects. If you want to see how helpful it is, just hire a mathematics teacher and let him focus on mathematics only for your son for just six months.
