Weekly Contest #34 || The Diary Game || (23/05/2025) I underestimated being a security guard

Good morning, my dear Steemian friends, I hope you're all enjoying your weekend. Mine is going well too. I'd like to also participate in this diary game contest, being organized by our dear admin @m-fdo, I would say a big thank you ma'am for your consistency 🙏🏼.

Since starting my new job, I've had to wake up earlier than usual, often as early as 4:45am or 5am, to ensure I'm on time for work. Yesterday was no exception. After saying my morning prayers around 5am, I began my morning chores and prepared my lunch for the day.

This job has forced me to develop the habit of skipping breakfast. Honestly, I struggle to eat that early, around 6:00 or 6:30 am, so I've started going to work on an empty stomach. Surprisingly, I'm getting used to it. Upon arriving at the site, I was assigned a duty, to monitor all incoming trucks and keep a record of the materials they deliver.

I sprang into action immediately, without any delay, as the trucks were coming and going in large numbers. The truck drivers were quite harsh and impatient, so I had to be sharp and quick to keep up with them.

I was stationed by the gate from 8am to 12noon, when it was time for lunch. That's when my supervisor and a colleague came to relieve me of my duty, allowing me to take a break and get some refreshment before returning.

I took advantage of the break to eat my lunch, thankfully, I had packed food from home and didn't need to go to the canteen. I pulled out my lunch from my bag and started eating steadily.

I didn't rush through my food like I do on some days, thanks to my colleague who was covering for me and attending to any incoming vehicles. Those truck drivers don't seem to care about lunch breaks, they just do as they please.

After finishing my lunch, I took a short rest while my colleague continued with the duty. She remained there until 4pm, when she obtained permission from our supervisor to attend her church choir practice. Once she left, I took over again.

This time, the number of trucks had decreased, but I had another responsibility to attend to. A section of the road was being repaired, and laborers were on site. I had to keep a close eye on them, as some might try to steal equipment for personal use. As a security guard, it's my duty to be vigilant and ensure that everything is accounted for at the end of the day.

The work continued until 5pm, the usual closing time for the workers. Meanwhile, as security guards, we used the remaining hour to cross-check and account for all the leftover equipment, including cement, rods, nails, pipes, and more. We recorded everything in the logbook, which would be handed over to the incoming shift.

After completing the checks, I headed to the changing room to change out of my uniform. I then completed the handover procedure and exited the premises. As I was leaving, I noticed some laborers working overtime outside the gate, so I decided to take a quick photo of them before heading home.

As soon as I got home, I took a refreshing cold bath to recharge. Afterwards, I prepared dinner and then grabbed my phone to log in to my Steemit account. I visited some posts, left valuable comments, and upvoted them as well. Next, I checked Facebook for the latest news, and before I knew it, I dozed off to sleep.
