Once upon a time, there lived a Jewish lady who lived in Persia. She was the queen of Persia and her cousin was second only to the king.
Yes, the lady is in a very respected position and so was his cousin. But that wasn't always the case. Events took place before they could get to that position. Let us talk about it below...

How it all began

The lady was raised by her cousin who later became second to the king.

This happened because the lady's parents died when she was little girl and so her cousin had to raise her. She grew up into a beautiful, intelligent and courageous young lady.

This young lady, as beautiful as she is, found favor in the eyes of the king of Persia and was called upon to become the king's wife after the king divorced his former wife.

The rivalry

Now there was a man who always loved to be proud and to have people bow down to him. Many feared him and bowed to him because at that time he was very respected and high official in the land.

The Jews in turn, especially the lady's cousin refused to bow down to him. He refused because the law of the Jews forbade them to bow down to any other person or God except their own God.
This made the proud man very furious and he started to hate the Jews.

Guess what he did next?

The malicious plot

He sought for ways to get the Jews(the Israelites) killed. He went in and told lies to the king saying, "The Jews are bad people. They do not obey the laws of the land...They should be put to death"

The king believed him and then made a law that all the Jews should be put to death. Little did he know that his wife, the beautiful lady, was part of the Jews.

The lady's cousin later heard about this news and that made him very upset. He then sends a message to his cousin, the lady. He asks her to help save the people, to reveal this malicious scheme against the Jews by the proud man.

Now, the lady needed to see the king. She was very much afraid to do this. Why was the lady afraid?
The lady was afraid because no could see the king without first being summoned, not even his own wife, or it could mean death. And the lady haven't been invited to the king for a long time.
But if the king raises up his golden rod to the person, it means that he could keep living but if otherwise, the person could get killed.

Even so, this lady summoned on courage and went in to see the king. As soon as she got there, she found favor in the eyes of the king and he held up the golden rod in acceptance for the lady to come in.

She invited the king along with the proud official for a big meal. During the meal, the king asks the lady what favor she wanted to ask from the him. The lady then told him that they would be informed of it if the both of them could come to another big meal the next day.

The next day, the lady opened up to the king in the presence of the proud man. He told him that she was a Jew and that the proud man wanted to eliminate her and her people.

The king's reaction

On hearing that, the king became very furious and commanded the the proud man be killed. He then made the lady's cousin second in power to him.
He then made sure that new laws were made that allowed the Jews to defend themselves on the day they were supposed to be exterminated. Many people helped the Israelites and they were able to defeat their enemies.

Lessons

• We, especially the young ones should learn to be courageous and to always speak up for what is right as the lady did.

• We should be proud like the man in the story because pride will always lead to a crash

• Obedience to instructions saves lives as it did for the lady who always listened to her cousin and as a result, she saved the entire Israel
