I am highly delighted to join this seasonal contest organize by @bossj23. Before now I kept on pondering on the real meaning of Christmas and how it affects our lives both positive and negative, even though it is in Christmas time that so many dangerous activities happens instead of good things, not until a priest in saint Patrick's Catholic in my area preaches about the history of Christmas and teach us how to celebrate it in a Godly way on Christmas day,and that really enables me to answer the following questions.

What does Christmas mean for you?

To me, Christmas means a merritorious day set aside to commemorate the birthday of the saviour of the world, who died on the cross of Calvary to save mankind from sin. Therefore, Christmas is a special day of celebration and jubilation for the Messiah has been borne to the world, through virgin Mary; though there's far more to say about Christmas than eating, dancing, clubbing etc. But christmas is a day of restitution and deep reflection about our relationship with God and others,on how to make amendments and live right with God and our neighbors, but the reverse is the case now, because so many evil activities and atrocities seems to be the order of the day during this blissful day we call Christmas and for decade I kept on pondering on the reasons, without solution to this madness.

Trace the origin of Christmas, stating at least 3 facts that supports or counters the celebration.

Based on research the origin of Christmas was traced to the date December 25 was in the 4th century, according to early Roman history. The celebrations of Christmas are said to have derived from Roman and some European festivals history that marked the end of the harvest, and the winter period.
Many customs from those celebrations that have endured include decorating homes with flowers giving gifts, singing, and having delicious delicacies.
A well renounced legend known as St. Nicholas in the 4th century history,a bishop and a patron saint for children .In his honor, the Feast of Saint Nicholas was commemorate on December 6 and gift was usually shared to love ones, especially children which now is referred to as "Santa" of this 21th century. At that period of time some pagans worshippers who worship various objects especially the gods of the sun in Greek "Helios" and "Apollo" the gods of light and lightening also commemorate their celebration in December ending.
Therefore, Christians leaders selected this special day to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

Some Facts About Christmas
*Christmas(25th December) is the birthday of our Lord Jesus Christ.

*The birth story of our Lord Jesus Christ is written in New Testament in the synoptic gospel of St Luke and St Matthew.

*Christmas informs us that their is hope for mankind, because a king is born into the world to destroy the power of sin over man.

Was Jesus born on 25th December?

To me, there's no biblical fact to show that Jesus Christ was born on 25th December. Therefore, Jesus Christ wasn't born or may not be born on 25th December. I think the day(25th December)was just an assumption by Pope Julius the I of the Roman Catholic Church in 4th century as well as the Church clergies years ago.

Why do you choose to or choose not to celebrate Christmas?

I chose to celebrate Christmas because it is worth celebrating for, because it is the very day that my saviour was born into the world to destroy the power of sin of man. Just like the Bible says;
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.(2 Corinthians 5:17)
Jesus Christ is the new thing that happened to us, therefore the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ washed away our sins and gives us the authority over Satan. It's indeed, worth jubilating for because it makes us to experience peace, love and unity amongst ourselves.

I would love to notify some Steemians to also participate in this contest @simonnwigwe @rakiya @kuzboy

Conclusion
Christmas is indeed a day of celebration with our love ones and family as well as going out giving to people especially the needy ones and the better part of it, is by making a total restitution to yourself, by doing the right thing.
And most importantly, if you don't have money to celebrate it, please don't commit evil or pressurize yourself just to belong. Christmas worths more than rice and chicken.

Merry Christmas Steemians 🎄
