SEC17 WK:#5: caring for aged and dependent relatives in the family

Hello good evening everyone, I believe we all had a wonderful day filled with joy and fulfilment. It's a pleasure being here and I am going to use this opportunity to participate in an interesting contest topic I found here in this community, titled caring for aged and dependent relatives in the family organized and published by @steenkidss the community account.

Caring for elderly people is a very important aspect in many families and societies. Though there is no law specification or any natural rule or government rule that strictly emphasis on doing so, but there are a lot of cultural and social norms that sees the importance of taking good care of age people.

This article is purposed, to discuss about our responsibilities and part in caring for our family members who are aged turning to be dependent. There's one idiom my parent always say in my language "enyen edi akot adi ubok" it's an ibibio idiom meaning that every child is expected to be of assistance to his or her parents when they grow up.

Through taking good care for our aging or dependent family members, we are not just ensuring their well being alone but we as well boost our own lives and stand still to the values that helps make our families strong. Seriously, I really love this contest. With this I'll love to pause and invite my friends @goodybest, @suboohi and @chant to participate in this interesting contest.

I have an experience of taking care of my grandma who's about 78years old when I was in the village, caring for my aging grandma was like, should I say both responsibility and joy for me. This began when my grandma wasn't able to perform strong as before due to weakness as an old person, most time I do get disturbed with bad emotions when I imagine the pains she's going through.

I did feel and take it as an commitment or duty, since she have always taken care of me and then I felt it was my turn to help and always be there when she need my help. But as time went on on, this responsibilities became something more fulfilling and meaningful as I feel happy when I'm able to make her happy and feel loved and cherised💖💚.

Though the journey was filled with so much up and down activities, despite that, the joys was far enough compare to the challenge. Any little time her faces light up with gratitude especially when we share stories and laughter it makes me feel all the difficult times and challenges worth it😍😍😍.

Like I cared for her, I feel more connected to her and and our family history and a lot of history which I shared recently as one of my steemit post. Seriously , I have learnt to consume her wisdom and the experience she gained over the years and her resilience and ability to bounce be in difficult times inspires me every day till date.

I wasn't the only one taking care of her though, I was one of those who played a important role, my parents didn't give up making sure they provide her with the necessary needs such as, food, clothes, proper medication and the love and affection the show her really sustained her. My siblings both my elders and other family members showed her sincerely love.

Most time my family members made it a duty of contributing a certain amount of money which will help take care of her needs, then I was still a kid. My role was to be around, help clean the surrounding, watch her wears and other chores which was find needful.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the time I spent caring for my dependent grandma have sincerely taught me the true meaning of love and empathy and even resilience from her stories. Though must time I do wish seeing her being strong and healthy as before, but since its out of human control nothing extra can be done.

My parents siblings and other of my family members did taught me the benefit of showing love through the efforts to assist her in feeding, medications and other aspect.
