The Need To Revive Our Societal Values In Nigeria

Societal Values includes honesty, diligence, preservance, selflessness, etc. These are virtues that are gradually eroding due to the advent of civilization. But unfortunately, all these values have been lost to mordenity and the realization of this fact is taring us in the face. This development has become a matter of constant discussion on radio, television and newspapers. The consequences of the loss of these values have dangerously threatened the very existence of our society. Currently, our social values have twisted.

Honesty and selflessness in service which are major values that should have been cherished by our society have long vanished with mordernization. As a result of this, hard work and diligence which should have been engendered by honesty and selflessness are no longer cherished by our youths. Those who acquire material wealth by being dishonest and crooked are praised and honoured while the hardworking but poor people are not respected simply because they don't have money. Therefore, as a result of this, many people don't believe in hardwork, perseverance, and selfless service.

An average Nigerian is greedy and everybody wants to own and ride exotic and flashy cars and also live in affluence. This has led to a lot of social vices like armed robbery, bribery, corruption, embezzlement and other social malices. All what most Nigerians wants is to acquire wealth by dubious means at all costs.

Homes and families are not exceptional as most parents are not honest. Most parents encourage their children to acquire wealth by all means, no matter how crooked it is. This is the major reason why public funds are converted to personal use and many are dishonest. There is this adage that says "Honesty Is The Best Policy", this adage is not longer working out for Nigerians. All these virtues mentioned above are more important and essential than gold. Your value determines your earnings. Value brings wealth. A good is better than riches. Honesty speaking, we truly need to revive our core societal values. May God help Nigeria. AMEN..!!!
