Tutorial: Introduction to MS Excel:The First Things You Should Know

Greetings to you and welcome to my post. In this post we'll learn about Microsoft Excel. The first things you should know in Microsoft Excel are all discussed in this tutorial. Let's begin with the Introduction of Microsoft Excel.
What is Microsoft Excel (MS. Excel)?
Microsoft Excel, is also known as Spreadsheet. Microsoft Excel is a program that allow us to record, analyze numerical and statistical data or accounting data. Microsoft Excel provide us with several features that allows us to input our data and calculate our data, apply graph, pivot table and several tools that can help us perform any accounting or statical works.
Today, with the advancements the f technology, Microsoft Excel has been make compatible with mobile devices such as Android, iOS, MacOS and window. However, the best way you can use Microsoft is on your computer.
In a nutshell, Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet program that involves rows and columns that makes a table. The columns side is the alphabetical letter side, whereas the numbers side is the rows.
From the screenshot above, we can see the illustration of what we are discussing about. Looking at the screenshot above, you can see which part is the column, rows, formula bar and the cell address bar. However, the places where the formula bar and cell address bar are is known as the ribbon which I will also introduce it to you by the time we have launch our Ms.Excel.
How to launch Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet;
Whether you are using a Windows XP, Windows7, 8, 10, Vista or any Version of windows there is no special way of launching Ms Excel that seem to be different from other windows. Launching of Microsoft Excel is as easy as ABCD... Kids all you have to do is to follow the steps below and get it done.
Step:1 On your PC just click on start menu
Step:2 Point your mouse to all programs
Step:3 Locate Microsoft Exce and click on it.
Note: You can also open your Microsoft Excel from your desktop shortcut if you have already added it to your desktop or better still you can open it from your start Menu you have added it there before. You can also search and open it from your Menu tab.
So kids you can now see that there are several ways in which you can open Microsoft Excel from you PC. In order for you to open Microsoft Excel from your phone, you have to download WPS office on your phone. Once you have download WPS office on your phone open it can click on the plus (+) sign where you then see New spreadsheet click on it and tap on New worksheet.
Okay kids, there is also a compatible Microsoft Excel spreadsheet on our mobile devices. Now let's continue with other useful tips.
In order for we to continue practically in this tutorial, we will be working with Windows 10 and WPS Office Spreadsheet. So now let's run Microsoft Excel on Windows 10 and our smartphone.
Running Microsoft Excel on Windows 10 and Smartphone

Understanding of Ribbon
Okay kids the entire screenshot that you are seeing above, is known as the Ribbon. The Ribbon is where you will get to see all the commands in Excels for easily shortcuts. What is a command? Okay kids, a command is an action that you performs which your computer acted according to the command.
Let's say for an example you're creating a new worksheet, printing your documents many are all command that user performs which the computer acted upon.
Let's take a quick look at some of the components of Ribbon.
Components of Ribbon
- Ribbon start button
- Ribbon tabs
- Ribbon bar
The Ribbon start button; is the button that you can use and access command like creating new documents, printing documents, saving existing worksheet etc.in addition for customizing of your Excel you can access it through the ribbon start button.
The Ribbon tabs; is the tabs that you can use and group commands that are similar together. The home tab is what you can use for basic commands like for example, formatting of your data to make it look more presentable.
The Ribbon bar; this is the bar that you can use and group similar command for example, Alignment.
Worksheet/Workbooks
Worksheet is involves the use of rows and columns in Excel. It's the row and columns that form a cell that is used for recording of data. In a cell every cell has its own unique address that is use to identify the cell. As I have earlier said, the columns are the letters side, whereas the numbers side is the rows.
In an Excel, Workbook is known as the collection of worksheets. There are three cells in a workbook and you can add many sheet as you wish and also delete as you wish. The default name of each of the sheets are Sheet1, Sheet2 Sheet3 etc. One good thing about Excel is that you can rename the sheet to your own name
Okay kids, now let's take a look at how we can customize Microsoft Excel environment.
Customization simply means you are changing the design, like adding colours, theme any etc.
In a case where you don't want to see some of the tabs on the Ribbon, or you wish to ad some some tabs that aren't showing like the developer tab you can add and remove any tab you wish to see or not to see by following the simple steps.
Step:1 At the ribbon click on the start button.
Step:2 After you have click on the start button, next from the drip down menu you will see a dialog window. Click on the customize ribbon option that appear at the left hand panel side of your screen just as it's shown from the screenshot below.
At the right hand side where you are seeing Main tab, undo the check marks from any of the tab you do want to see on the Ribbon of your PC. In this Tutorial you can see that I have undo View, Review and Page layout tab.
Once you have undo the tab you don't want to see on your ribbon Click on "OK" and your ribbon will then appear as shown below.
Conclusion:
MS Excel is a program that is use for recording, storing of numeric data, manipulate of data, creating of graph and alot more which you can also customize it the way you want. In this tutorial we have learned about Microsoft Excel and the components of Microsoft Excel Ribbon.
