How to cook okra soup

Okra soup is one of the rich foods that can be found in every part of the world. It is a soup that is eaten by everyone, rich or poor, and some people like combining it with ogbono to make it more delicious, in my case, where I combine cooking my okra with ogbono to have a better result, which makes the soup more delicious.

Okra is a perfect meal for adults, and eating it with your favorite eba (fufu) will always put a smile on your face. I will be showing you how to prepare delicious okra soup with a combination of ogbono, which I did before writing this post. In this post, I will be showing you how to prepare okra based on the ingredients that I used.

However, you can choose to increase or reduce your ingredients depending on the number of people that will eat the food or how long you plan to eat the soup.


Ingredients used:

  • Meat (beef preferable or chicken)
  • Stockfish
  • Crayfish
  • Okra, a medium-sized bowl full
  • Fresh pepper
  • Onions
  • Ogbono
  • Red oil
  • Ugu leaf (vegetable leaves)
  • Salt to taste
  • Seasoning cubes

Preparation
  • You have to slice your okra and keep it aside.
  • Wash and slice vegetable leaves and keep aside.
  • Grind pepper and crayfish and keep aside.
  • Wash your meat very well, put it inside pot, and then add a seasoning cube to it.

Cooking direction
  • Season the meat (beef) and cook it together with the stockfish. Keep on cooking it until the meat becomes soft enough to eat.

  • In case you missed adding the stock fish, you can add it to the cooking meat and allow it to cook for about 10 minutes.

  • Add ground pepper, onions, crayfish, seasoning cubes, and salt to taste and allow to cook for 5-8 minutes.

  • After 5–8 minutes of cooking, add the ogbono and allow it to boil. You can then add the sliced okra and stir very well.

  • Allow it to simmer for about 10 minutes before adding the sliced vegetable leaf. After you have added the vegetable leaf, allow it to simmer and for the soup to become thicker before bringing it down from the fire.

  • Serve it on a plate with your favorite fufu and begin eating, as hot food is better to eat than cool food.
