Hello kids, you are welcome to my post. I am excited to have you here today. In this post you are going to learn how to prepare my local meal called Oha soup in accordance with the contest that was organized by @steemkids in Steemkids Community.

Oha soup is one of the local meals that is very popular in the Eastern part of Nigeria, which is the Igbo places. The soup is loved by everyone in the eastern part of Nigeria since it is the number one favorite meal that is best known in the eastern part of Nigeria. As I am lucky enough to find myself in the eastern part of Nigeria, I have come to know how to cook oha soup, which I will also be sharing with you how you can also cook oha soup with achi.

Achi is what is used to thicken the oha soup. In the absence of cocoyam, achi has been used as a replacement. Although a lot of people prefer using achi to thicken their oha soup rather than using cocoyam. The fact is that achi gives more taste to the soup than cocoyam. As I have earlier said, it is very easy to cook oha soup. Without wasting time, let's get into it right away.

Ingredients used in the preparation of OHA soup
  • 1 bunch Oha leaves
  • Smoked fish
  • Canda (Cow Skin)
  • Meat (optional)
  • Crayfish (optional)
  • Palm oil (Red Oil)
  • 2 small onions
  • Maggi
  • Fresh pepper
  • Salt to taste

Cooking Direction:

I soaked and washed the smoked fish and canda (cow skin) with hot water and removed all the dirt and kept them aside.

I shredded the oha leaves with my hands and set them aside before slicing onions, seasoning cube, salting, and adding a small amount of water to the wash fish and cow skin and cooking them on medium heat for a few minutes.

After a few minutes, I stir in the blended peppers and onions.

Next, I add another stock cube and some salt to taste.

After some minutes, I pour in some palm oil based on the quantity of the soup, and give it a proper stir. I then cover it and allow it to cook for about 4 minutes on medium heat.

After about 4 minutes, I pour in the dilute achi, which I have already mixed with cool water, into the pot of soup and allow the soup to get thicker.

After about 2 minutes, I then add shredded Oha leaves and stir the soup very well before I turn off my gas.

Conclusion:

Oha soup is a very rich meal that is enjoyable with fufu, semovita, garri, or any kind of meat that you can think of. Oha soup contains a lot of vitamins and it's one of the most common foods that you can find in the eastern part of Nigeria. Thank you for stopping by, friend.
