Writing Expedition ✍️: Nature - Flowers

Greetings to all members of steemkids and parents. I will be partaking in this week's writing expedition. I hope that we all learn new things as we blog about a whole lot of things.
Mondays are meant for nature and I will be writing about a part of nature that adds colours to our lives. The flowering parts of plants.

These are plants grown for their beauty. A lot of ornamental plants are flowering plants. I will be writing on some common flowers we see in our locality.
Though termed as ornamental plants, flowers can also be used as medicines, some could be used for their fragrance and also agricultural purposes.

• Beautification:

Most ornamental plants are cultivated for beautification. The flower above is called a Bougainvillea. Bougainvillea is an ornamental plant full with thorns. They are known for its wonderful colours which includes pink, shade of red and purple. This flowers are mostly given as gifts because of its mild and beautiful nature.
The flowers bring beauty to the environment. I love the colours this particular flower add to the environment. It is a beauty to behold.

• Agricultural purposes

Some flowers are planted due to agricultural purposes. For example, Bougainvillea flower can also be used as a cover crop in farms to protect young plants from rodents.
The flower above is called crown of thorns.
The crown of thorns which is also called Christ thorn or Christ plant is a plant with very small flowers which are known to be very beautiful.
It is known to be poisonous to some animals and it is an irritant to humans. The flower has the following colours, red, lilac pink etc.
It has economic importance in agriculture, as it could be use as a pest control.

• Medicinal purposes

Ornamental plants can also serve as medicines depending on the kind of ailment. Just like okro itself is beneficial to the body, it's flowers is no different. Flowers could also be used as medicines for both animals and man.

Flowers are not just known for its beauty but also it can be used for a whole lot of things. Flowers are very special parts of plants and have their own importances.
