Hello steemkids , I am very happy to be a verified kid in this community, as I will be taking part in this homework given by the social studies teacher @udyliciouz on the topic natural resources, which I have learnt a lot, so I will be taking part in this .

Define natural disaster using your own terms

Lets break this down, Natural means in accordance or concerning nature, that is, it’s just nature, while disaster is any occurrence or hazard resulting in dissagreement, loss of life and properties and destructions , so bonding this two terms together we can easily know that Natural disaster I’d a negative impact caused by a natural occurrence like natural hazards examples are: floods, droughts, earthquakes and more which leads to the loss of life’s and damages of property.

mention some natural disasters that are peculiar to your home country

Flood is the main natural disaster that is rampant in my home country Nigeria , as it leads to loss of properties and damages, it is a natural occurrence, so it needs adequate drainage system to fight it off, and the topography of the land says a lot about flodding, cause if the land is sloping inwards , there’s a probability that when it floods it will follow the slopy part.

what measures would you suggest the authority in your area could setup to mitigate the effect of the natural disaster that affects your area?

Authorities should make available enough/adequate drainage systems which will make way for the gushing water to pass freely without causing damages to people , we as the citizens also have a big role to play in this, as we are to clean and maintain the environment , and not dumping refuse or sacks in the drainage system or gutters which will lead to it’s blockage, is water will just flood the area, so we are to clear our environment .

Explain the terms

Lightning storm: which is known as thunder storm, is a storm caused by the presence of lightning and it’s effect on the Earth’s atmosphere known as thunder, it’s just the violent storm of thunder and lightning, sometimes accompanied by rain or hail

Wildfire: is an unplanned and uncontrollable fire , which can be caused by lightning and other factors , it leads to much destructions as it can take large acre of land.

Landslides: this occurs when the ground on slopes becomes unstable , the unstable ground collapses and flows down the side Hill or mountain, if it occurs near areas with people , it will create great damage.

Hail: It is a solid pellets of frozen rain which falls in showers, causing destructions.
