Section a

1. Four times a number gives 40
   ANS: 4a= 40

2. I have a number, double it and add 10 to it and the answer will be 20
   Let the number = y
   ANS: 2×y + 19 = 20

3. Twice a number is added to 5 and it gives 25 as the result
   Let the unknown be x
   The equation is;
   2× X + 5 = 25

4. Ninety plus a number gives two hundred and one.
   Let the unknown be = q
   The equation
   = 90 + q = 201

Section b
Solve the equations you have in section a

(A). 4×a=40
4a = 40
4a/4 = 40/4
a = 40/4
a = 10

(B). 2×y+10 = 20
2y+10 = 20
2y = 20-10
2y/2 = 10/2
y = 10/2
y = 5

(C). 2× X + 5 = 25
2x + 5 = 25
2x = 25-5
2x/2 = 20/2
x = 20/2
x = 10

(D). 90 + q = 201
q=201-90
q=111
