SEC17 WK:#3: large and small families, likes and dislikes

What is Family?

The family is the smallest educational organization in the world, where the father can be analogous to the principal and the mother is the teacher. A family must have a clear vision in determining the direction of life's goals, especially in caring for, educating, and fostering children who are the main assets.

I am a father who currently has three sons, but if Allah gives me the opportunity to have up to ten children, why not, it is the decree of Him, the Master of the universe.

There is an opinion that says that with many children will be directly proportional to the amount of money that needs to be spent on living expenses. Of course that is a true picture, what is wrong is the way we react to it, when we consider it to be something to be feared or avoided. As someone who believes in the existence of an all-knowing and all-regulating God, I personally believe that Allah has prepared and guaranteed sustenance for each of his creatures. Our job is to pick up the sustenance with His pleasure.

"My Home is My Heaven", is an expression that becomes an ideal motivation for Muslims in forming a family that can create comfort, security and most importantly, peace of mind. Family is the place to return to after a tiring day of body and mind.

In Islam, there is a recommendation given by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) which reads:
"Marry a woman who is affectionate and can have many children, for indeed I will be proud of you in the presence of the prophets on the Day of Judgment."

Like marriage, having children in the Islamic perspective is worth worship. Especially when they are able to raise children to become pious people, which is the highest achievement of parents, which will bring goodness to them in this world and in the hereafter.

A Great Story from Qur'an

By referring to the Qur'an, there is a story of love between parents and children that is based on obedience to Allah. This beautiful story comes from Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail. It is certain that all Muslims know these two extraordinary prophets, and deserve to be an example for mankind.

It began when Prophet Ibrahim was childless for a long time, then he asked Allah with the words of prayer:
"O my Lord bestow upon me (offspring) who are among the righteous." Q.S. As-Saffat: 100.

Prophet Ibrahim's prayer was answered by God. Prophet Ismail was born and grew up with a good character, obedient to his God and devoted to his parents. Until when the age of Prophet Ismail grew up. Prophet Ibrahim had a dream from God who ordered to cut the neck of Prophet Ismail. The dream repeated for three times, so Prophet Ibrahim also told about his dream to Prophet Ismail.

Prophet Ismail who heard his father's story instead of running away or defending himself. Prophet Ismail assured Prophet Ibrahim that it was indeed an order from God, meaning that the order was mandatory. Prophet Ismail accepted with a strong sense of self-inhibition of what he would receive, he was sure whatever God's decree was the best. It was proven that in the end Allah replaced the figure of Prophet Ismail with a qibas when Prophet Ibrahim had placed a knife near his son's neck and was preparing to cut it.

Lesson to be Learned

A big question from this story is, how can a child willingly accept the bad things that will happen to him, the severity of which will be done by his own father. Perhaps an adult child today when faced with a situation like this would consider his father crazy and report him to the police.

If every child has the nature of Prophet Ismail, of course, no matter how many children in the house will not be a problem, maybe even the more there are, the happier it will be.
